The second online poker site in Michigan is here: BetMGM Poker MI launched on March 22.
It joins PokerStars MI, the first online poker site in Michigan which went live on January 29, 2021. The addition of the latest BetMGM USA brand to the Wolverine State made Michigan the second state with the greatest number live online poker sites, behind only New Jersey, but recently they have fallen behind Pennsylvania.
With a population of approximately 10 million, Michigan is the 2nd largest state to legalize, regulate and launch online poker. And though online casino games and online sportsbooks went live a week earlier than the first online poker site in the state, the second online poker operator is finally here giving players in the state a choice where they want to play.
When it comes to Welcome Bonuses, BetMGM has quickly developed a reputation for providing some of the best packages on offer for new players.
The BetMGM deposit bonus package has changed recently, and the room is no longer offering a no deposit bonus for new players. Instead, it has bumped the maximum match offer and added some tournament tickets into the mix.
When you make your First Deposit of $10 or more at BetMGM Poker MI, the online poker site will give you a bonus equal to the amount of your deposit up to $1000.
After you register, you will have seven (7) days to make your First Deposit and take advantage of this bonus. After you receive the bonus, you will have 120 days to clear it.
The bonus is released in increments equal to 10% of the player’s deposit and is cleared by earning 10.5x the increment amount in iRPs.
On top of the 100% deposit bonus, BetMGM Poker MI also treats players to some tournament tickets. The maximum value you can get equals to $75 and it is based on the total amount of your first deposit, namely:
Ticket values are $5, $10, and $20, and you can use them to enter all tournaments with the corresponding buy-in. Tickets must be used within 14 days from being issued and there are no wagering requirements attached to any winnings resulting from the tournaments you play in.
BetMGM is known for offering top notch promotions. In addition to the welcome offers for new players, you can expect that BetMGM Poker will host a regular slate of promotions to attract action at their virtual poker tables.
The typical promotions available to poker players at BetMGM can be categorized in the following manner:
The Grind is a popular promotion available to all BetMGM MI players. No opt-in is required, which makes this promo even more valuable. Like you could probably guess from the name, this promotion reward players for the amount of play they put in.
This is a month-long promo that awards cash based on the total number of iRPs accumulated during the period. The minimum amount required to get a cash prize is 100 points for $1, while the maximum you can get from The Grind is $6500, if you reach the milestone of 300,000 iRPs.
There are 40 different preset milestone, with each next one offering a better prize. At the end of the month, the player is paid only the prize from the highest milestone they unlock, not the sum of all milestones.
Running throughout the month of June is the BetMGM Poker MI Spin the Wheel promo, offering players a chance to win nice poker prizes every single day.
All registered players are welcome to participate. Simply log in to your account and go to the Promotions’ tab to spin the wheel for the chance of winning one of the prizes:
Players need to use all prizes within 24 hours from winning them; otherwise they will expire. Hot cash bonuses are released through playing cash games and tournaments and accumulating iRPs. Winnings resulting from other prizes (tournament tickets) are free of any wagering requirements.
There are plenty of banking options at BetMGM Poker, so no matter how you like to handle your online banking, it will be easy to move money both on and off the site.
The options for depositing on BetMGM Poker include the following:
The number withdrawal methods available is a bit more limited, however, if you use the BetMGM VIP Preferred method, which connects directly to your bank account for ACH transactions and e-checks, you should be able to get your money on and off the site with no problems.
In addition to the VIP Preferred method, players can also use the PayWithMyBank option to get their funds off the site.

In February 2022, BetMGM launched a new rewards’ scheme that offers some distinction between rewards for live and online players. Previously, everyone was a part of the award-winning M life Rewards program, but this was substituted with the new BetMGM Rewards and MGM Rewards systems.
If you are playing online poker, you will be earning rewards under the BetMGM Rewards scheme, which kept some of the original structure, but also introduced some new elements and changed the number of points required to reach certain tiers.
Every time you play online poker, you will earn two types of points:
BetMGM Reward points can be redeemed through the online Loyalty Store for cash bonuses or you can convert them into MGM Reward points, which, in turn, can be used to get comps at all live venues owned by MGM Resorts.
For poker, you will earn up to 500 BetMGM Rewards points for every $100 you pay in rake at cash game tables and also for each $100 you pay in tournament fees.
You will also earn BetMGM Reward points if you decide to play casino games or place a wager in the sportsbook.
Tier Credits are used to determine the level of rewards that you can receive. The higher the tier level that you achieve, the more lucrative the rewards. The rewards program has 5 tiers ranging from the starting level of Sapphire up to Noir which is by invitation only.
The following table outlines the number of Tier Credits needed to achieve each level:
|Sapphire||Zero to 19,999|
|Pearl||20,000 and above|
|Gold||75,000 and above|
|Platinum||200,000 and above|
|Noir||By Invitation Only|
BetMGM Poker may not be familiar to poker players in Michigan, but the brand is backed by one of the best-known names in online poker: partypoker.
The BetMGM Poker MI poker site utilizes the software and expertise of partypoker which means if you are looking for well run online poker tournaments with good structures and large payouts, you are looking in the right place.
A full range of tournaments are available at BetMGM Poker MI including the most popular formats: MTTs and SNGs.
When it comes to Mutli Table Tournaments (MTTs) there is a wide variety of tournaments that run each day at buy-ins ranging from $0.25 up to $535. Higher stakes tournaments are available during special tournament series that run periodically.
While most of the daily tournaments are spread as No Limit Hold’em (NLHE), there are also a number of Omaha tournaments available each day including Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) and Pot Limit Omaha Eight (PLO8) — the hi/low version of PLO.
MTTs run around the clock, but look for the most popular MTTs on the weekdays to start between 7pm and 10pm.
You will find the MTTs with the biggest prize pools take place on the weekend with BetMGM Poker MI hosting a full schedule of Sunday Majors.
Poker players love big tournament series because the offer a wide variety of games with prize pools that are usually bigger than the standard prize pools they see on the regular weekly schedule.
Tournament series also frequently have corresponding promotions giving players a chance to pad their bankrolls. Plus, along with the tournament series poker rooms typically run satellite tournaments and qualifiers offering players a chance to win their way into big money tournaments.
Running March 20 – 27, 2022, BetMGM Poker MI March Poker Mania was a series featuring 11 tournaments, with buy-ins ranging from $109 to $1060 for the $100K guaranteed Main Event on March 27.
There was another Main Event, the $75K one, which cost $535 to buy directly into the Phase 2, but players also had a chance to get their seat for the final day through daily $55 Phase I events.
Other than this, March Poker Mania offered a good mix of tournaments, with traditional and PKO events, a few PLO tournaments, and a $1,060 heads up event.
In June 2021, BetMGM MI ran a BetMGM Online Series, consisting of 10 events spread across over two weeks of play. The series was geared more towards those with bigger bankrolls, with most buy-ins being at least $109.
One exception to this was the Event #8, which featured a modest buy-in of just $20. As a result, it attracted a total of 2,169 entries, creating a $39,042 prize pool and shattering the $5000 guarantee.
However, quite a few tournaments failed to meet the guarantee. The biggest overlay happened in the very first event, as BetMGM had to make up the difference of almost $15,000 to make the $50,000 guarantee.
For the month of August, BetMGM Poker MI is hosting 11 events for their Online Series. Things kick off on August 15 with a $535 tournament and the action will continue for a full week, with the final two events taking place on August 22.
The BetMGM Online Series was back in October, featuring once again ten events in total, with most buy-ins being either $215 or $109 and guarantees ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.
For the month of November, BetMGM Poker MI hosted an interesting End Boss Series, which featured seven from *November 23 – 28, 2021.
Buy-ins for the series were on the higher side, ranging from $215 to $1060, but with prize pools to match. Adding some more spice to the whole series was the fact that the new BetMGM ambassador Darren Elias was playing as well, so players hada real chance to run into him on the virtual felt and test their skills against one of the best tournament players around.
To see the old year out in style, BetMGM Poker MI hosted Cheap Stakes series in the second half of December. Like the name suggests, the series consisted of smaller buy-in events, but the $50 Main Event still featured a very respectable $20,000 guarantee.
The poker tournaments in Michigan are currently only open to players physically located within the state, but Michigan lawmakers passed a law in late 2020 that allows the Michigan Gaming Control Board to enter into agreements with gaming regulators in other states that have legal regulated online poker.
As of now, Michigan has not yet joined the Multi State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) which would allow its online poker providers to combine their player pools in the other states that have signed the agreement: New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware. In addition to Michigan, other states expected to join MSIGA include Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The DOJ has passed on the opportunity to appeal the First Circuit Court decision with regards to the Wire Act interpretation, which means that the doors are now open for states to start creating new or expanding the existing Multi State Internet Gaming Agreement. Although things are still not perfectly clear from the legal standpoint, the future of online poker in the US (and BetMGM as one of the major operators) looks bright.
SNGs, also referred to as Sit N Go tournaments, kickoff as soon as they reach the required number of players. One of the biggest attractions to SNGs is that they don’t require large chunks of time to play. These single table tournaments finish in considerably less time than their multi-table counterparts.
SNGs on BetMGM Poker are offered in both No Limit Hold’em (NLHE) and Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) formats.
You can play 6-max SNGs at Turbo speed or Heads Up SNGs at Hyper-Turbo speed.
In October of 2021, BetMGM Poker MI finally introduced jackpot-style SNGs they call SPINS. This was an expected development as the operator has previously announced their plans to introduce SPINS to all regulated markets they operate in.
At BetMGM MI, players currently have access to four different level of SPINS: $1, $5, $10, and $25. These tournaments offer prizes between 2x and 1000x the buy-in, and the prize is randomly determined at the start of every tournament.
These jackpot-style tournaments have been hugely popular in the US and worldwide, and it is great news for BetMGM MI players that they finally have access to these.
Cash games are the lifeblood of poker and at BetMGM Poker MI you can always find a seat at the Hold’em and Omaha tables, and if 7-Card Stud is your game, BetMGM Poker has you covered there too.
There are cash game tables for the following poker variants:
Notably, BetMGM Poker MI does not currently spread draw games like 2-7 Triple Draw or the Stud variant Razz. As a result, the room also doesn’t offer mixed games like HORSE or 8 Game.
The lack of these games is the reason for our lower rating for cash games.
However, limiting the number of games on offer to just the most popular variants means that the cash game players on the site are concentrated at available tables which results in it being easier to find a game running most times of the day and night.
Though BetMGM Poker MI does not have the widest selection of cash games, it does offer a wide range of stakes ranging from $0.01/$0.02 at the No Limit and Pot Limit tables to $30/$60 at the Limit Hold’em tables.

The online poker software used at BetMGM Pker MI is provided by one of the biggest names in online poker, partypoker.
While the player in each state cannot currently compete against each other at the virtual cash game and tournament tables, Michigan lawmakers passed a law in late 2020 giving the Michigan Gaming Control Board the authority to enter into agreements with other states that offer legal regulated online poker to allow operators that are licensed in multiple states to combine their player pools.
As mentioned, partypoker provides the software platform for BetMGM Poker MI meaning the software is tried and tested.
You can count on minimal disruptions due to bugs, crashes, freezes, or poor design as the partypoker software has been used around the world for over two decades.
The tech team is also experienced at keeping its servers up and running and keeping you connected to your favorite games. But when such unfortunate events do happen, the seasoned team of professionals at Roar Digital (the company that operates the partypoker platform in the US) have the policies and experience to handle disruptions in a fair and equitable manner.

Under the terms of their license, BetMGM Poker MI can only allow players physically present in Michigan to play for real money. This is the case for all state-regulated online poker sites across the US.
The operator uses geo-location technology to determine the location of all players logging onto the platform and you will have to allow location tracking on your device to be able to play.
BetMGM Poker MI currently only allows Michigan players to play against each other. However, plans are already in the works to change this and combine player pools with the partypoker US Network in New Jersey.
Michigan has already passed the law that makes it possible for poker sites to share player pools across state borders, so BetMGM Poker will likely jump at the opportunity once the MGCB formally joins the Multi State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA).
