Game of Gold, the hit poker reality show from GGPoker, has made its debut on television in Canada with its broadcast debut on Sportsnet.

The show, which blends high production poker action with reality TV storytelling, became an instant favorite among poker fans when it debuted two years ago.

The 12-episode series featured 16 professional players split into four teams, battling across multiple poker formats to rack up coins. The eventual champion won $456,000, but the real prize was how the show captured the imagination of poker fans worldwide. Episodes swiftly drew millions of views on YouTube, and the show also earned a GPI Award of Merit for the way it reignited conversation around televised poker.

Now, Game of Gold is airing for the first time on linear TV after building a huge audience online.

The first episode premiered on Sportsnet on November 17, kicking off a multi-month run, with new episodes airing every Monday on Sportsnet 360 until February, in addition to daily repeats across the Sportsnet group of channels at various time slots.

Meanwhile, GGPoker has unlisted the episodes from YouTube during the broadcast window and plans to return them after the Canadian TV run concludes in February 2026.

The move puts one of poker’s most talked about series in front of a mainstream Canadian audience. It also extends the show’s lifecycle two years after it first captured attention globally.

From Viral YouTube Hit to Prime Time TV

Game of Gold premiered on YouTube in November 2023 as a partnership between GGPoker and the Poker After Dark production team. The first episode landed on November 10, 2023, with the 12 episode season wrapping on December 8, 2023, and the format quickly earned strong word of mouth.

The show’s hybrid concept, pairing cards up team strategy with behind the scenes confessionals, and the fact that it was partially inspired by the Squid Game TV show, made it a breakout. It received overwhelmingly positive feedback from poker professionals and recreational players alike. The cast was also excellent, headlined by Maria Ho, Daniel Negreanu, Fedor Holz, Dan Jungleman Cates, Jason Koon, and more.

The show became such a hit that talks for Season 2 began emerging immediately after Season 1 ended. GGPoker’s creative lead and the host team had previously indicated production talks and development steps. That included a reunion segment filmed around WSOP Paradise, where on-air comments teased that Season 2 was official and that the production process had already begun.

In fact, in late 2023, Spunky Hwang, GGPoker Creative Director, Producer & Director of Game of Gold, confirmed in an exclusive to Pokerfuse that talks were already underway for Season 2. He hinted at “a lot more intensity with more uncertainties ahead” and expressed excitement at how strongly the community embraced the first season.

However, as months passed through 2024 and into 2025, the sequel did not materialize. In August 2025, GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu publicly dampened expectations, stating he did not see it happening, though he left a small window of possibility. Those remarks capped a long period of silence that followed earlier optimism.

The Sportsnet debut gives Game of Gold a second life and a new discovery channel. The relaunch of Game of Gold on TV comes at a moment when poker entertainment and poker content have seen a small resurgence. Indeed, when Game of Gold debuted, around the same time, PokerStars revived The Big Game and pushed other TV style formats back into the spotlight.

Last year, a docu-series on Phil Galfond was released, which received widespread praise, and quite recently, GGPoker and WSOP launched two new poker docu-series — NO LIMIT and Online Poker Millionaires.

With Season 1 now airing on Sportsnet, the show reaches a new audience while the online home temporarily goes quiet. The Canada poker fans can enjoy the TV run that is expected to continue into early 2026, with a planned return to YouTube once broadcasts conclude in February.

Season 2, despite early hints, appears unlikely at this time. Any change in that status would most likely surface after the TV window and into 2026.
