The second edition of WSOP Circuit Montreal for 2026 is officially in the books, and the Playground Casino has managed to put up another great festival of poker.

The schedule that featured 18 ring events and offered a wide scope of buy-ins was more than enough to get the players’ attention. By the time it was all said and done, there were close to 8,400 entries over the span of 10 days.

Although the series was smaller than the one that took place in March — April, it was still a big success for the organizers, setting the stage for the big WSOP Super Circuit festival set to take place in late August and early September.

Online Qualifiers Dominate the Main Event

The C$2,500 Main Event featured a very solid guarantee of C$2.2 million, but, once more, that guarantee was blown out of the water. There was a total of 1,022 entries in the tournament, resulting in a prize pool of over C$2.6 million.

A big chunk of that prize pool was, naturally, reserved for the final table, and this Main Event reminded the poker world that the dream is very much alive.

Namely, three of the nine final players were online qualifiers who won their WSOPC Montreal Main Event seats via $75 online satellites on GGPoker. And although none of them managed to capture the title, all three finished in the top six spots (second, third, and sixth).

Of course, that number isn’t as surprising if we consider the fact that online qualifiers constituted about 14% of the entire field (147 players). It does, however, show how online satellites remain a significant cog in the poker tournament machine. We saw something similar in the March event, where 273 players were online qualifiers, and one of them actually captured the title.

As for the winner in this one, that honor went to Canada’s Daniel Ghionoiu, and this is his very first WSOPC ring. For his win, he picked up C$370,001, which constitutes his best career cash by far. He defeated Daniel Tsipris, one of the qualifiers, to seal the deal.

Position Player Prize (CAD)
1st Daniel Ghionoiu $370,001
2nd Daniel Tsipris $235,000
3rd Sylvain Siebert $164,600
4th Qi Hu $115,000
5th Corbin Avery $80,000
6th Alexandre Oberson $60,000
7th Christopher Clark $47,000
8th Eric Gabriel Yanovsky $38,000
9th Wing Tat Yeung $30,000

WSOPC Montreal Returns in August

This is not the last time Playground Casino will welcome Circuit players in 2026. After all the 2026 WSOP craziness dies down, there is the WSOP Super Circuit series scheduled to take place August 24 — September 9.

Details about the full schedule are still not available, but we do know that the Main Event will come with a price tag of C$5,000 and a hefty guarantee of C$10,000,000, setting it up to become the largest-ever WSOP event held in Canada.

More information will become available in the coming weeks, but it’s a safe bet that GGPoker and GGPoker Ontario will once again be hosting all sorts of online satellites, giving players a chance to get involved at a big discount.

From what we’ve already seen this year, the WSOP Super Circuit festival in Montreal could be a massive affair, and even that huge $10M guarantee could easily be broken. So, firing up a few satellites to try and secure your spot will definitely be worth it.
