PokerStars’ first major series on its new FanDuel powered US platform is already shaping up to be highly favorable for players, with widespread overlays across the opening two days of the Ignite Series.
Despite the operator putting up a bold $5 million in guarantees across 90 tournaments, early turnout has struggled to keep pace with expectations. As a result, the vast majority of completed events so far have fallen short of their guarantees, creating significant added value for US online poker players.
Across the first two days, 13 tournaments have closed registration and collectively generated over $800,000 in prize pools. However, 11 of those 13 events recorded overlays, contributing more than $200,000 in extra value. In total, nearly 9,000 entries have been logged so far, but that has not been enough to prevent consistent shortfalls.

Big Overlays Highlight Opening Weekend
Some of the biggest misses have come in the series’ headline Sunday events.
The $100 Sunday Dynasty, one of the newly introduced flagship tournaments, came with a $200,000 guarantee but managed just 1,485 entries, leaving a sizable overlay of $63,600. Similarly, the $250 Blast Off on the opening day, which carried a $125,000 guarantee, fell short by more than $50,000.
At the lower buy-in level, the $20 Sunday Shield attracted a healthy 1,676 entries but still missed its $50,000 guarantee by close to $20,000, underlining how ambitious the guarantees are across all tiers.
Another notable shortfall came in Event #12: $100 Second Chance, which drew 370 entries and resulted in an overlay of around $16,000.
So far, only two tournaments have managed to exceed their guarantees. The $20 Turbo Mystery Bounty event scraped past its $10,000 guarantee with 582 entries, while the $30 Bounty Adrenaline PKO event generated a prize pool slightly above $12,000 on the back of 429 entries.
The early numbers point to either aggressively set guarantees, slower-than-expected player uptake on the new PokerStars FanDuel platform, or a mix of both. Either way, the result is clear — players entering these events are benefiting from substantial added value.
More Value Likely as Series Continues
The series kicked off on April 18 and will span two weeks, taking place for players in New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
With 77 tournaments still left to play, the PokerStars Ignite Series is far from over, and if the current trend holds, players can expect continued overlays in the days ahead.
Day 3 of the series features four tournaments with a combined $200,000 in guarantees, with buy-ins ranging from $25 to $250. Among them, the $100 Nightly Stars with a $50,000 guarantee stands out, alongside the $250 Battle Royale boasting $100,000 in guaranteed prize money.
As with the rest of the schedule, satellites are widely available, with buy-ins starting as low as $2.50 and running right up until the start of events, offering additional pathways into higher buy-in tournaments.
While early turnout has been underwhelming relative to guarantees, it is not uncommon for participation to build momentum as a series progresses — particularly as awareness spreads and larger marquee events approach.
Those marquee events are still to come. The Ignite Series Main Event, priced at $300, features a $500,000 guarantee and is scheduled toward the end of the series. Alongside it, the High Roller Main Event with a $1,500 buy-in and $250,000 guarantee will also serve as a major focal point.
Given the size of these guarantees and the overlays already seen, they could present some of the biggest value spots of the entire festival if current trends persist.
For now, the early story of the Ignite Series on FanDuel Poker is clear: big guarantees, modest turnout, and significant overlays.
