Since the day it launched, BetRivers Poker has been focusing on giving back to the players and creating a platform that combines fun, competition, and extra value. But there is a gap between wanting to provide extra value and actually coming up with ways to do it.
Helping to bridge that gap is the job of the promotional team at BetRivers Poker, managed by Nick Steiner. He recently sat down for an interview with PokerNews’ Chad Holloway to provide a behind-the-scenes look at what his day-to-day job looks like and how the operator comes up with promotional ideas.
Steiner revealed many interesting details, but one that really stood out was that pretty much the entire BetRivers team is involved to some extent. Instead of limiting things to just one department, the operator leans into the fact that it has so many poker players working inside the team, and their ideas are welcomed and encouraged, even if promotions aren’t a part of their job description.

The Floor Is Always Open for Ideas
Nick explains that there are many poker-first employees working at BetRivers. The two most prominent names are, of course, Phil Hellmuth and Phil Galfond, but many of those working in the company have extensive poker backgrounds.
This includes Steiner himself, who moved to Malta eight years ago to work for Run It Once, Galfond’s poker site that was eventually bought by Rush Street Interactive. This became the foundation for BetRivers Poker. Over those eight years, Nick wore many hats in the original company and RSI, and he also spent a lot of time playing poker.
Having such a strong, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic team, the company leans into it, inviting everyone to share their ideas. It is ultimately Nick’s job to pick the best ones and give them a proper shape, but having a constant influx of ideas from people who understand what it is that players want helps him and his team a lot.
He mentions one specific example where someone came up with an idea to make bobble head figurines to go along with April Phil’s Month, a promotion celebrating the operator’s two most prominent ambassadors. Bobbleheads were a huge hit with the players, although the lucky winners have yet to receive them — a fact for which Nick apologizes profusely, offering reassurances that they’re on their way.
Taking Pride in Their Work
For everybody working at BetRivers Poker, building a platform that players truly enjoy is something they take great pride in. The goal is to have a site that every single one of them would genuinely want to play on, and generous, exciting promotions that cater to different player types play an important role in that process.
One of the more recent examples of a promo that Nick is especially proud of is the weekly Cash Game Ladder. The idea wasn’t completely new, as the original Run It Once site had something similar, but figuring it out and putting it in place was a team effort that produced the desired results.
The gist of it is, instead of rewarding just a few players every week, the new system gives a big percentage of all active players access to additional weekly rewards. So the players get more bang for their buck and are better motivated to put in the volume—two essential components of a good poker promotion.
The team always has its ear to the ground, listening to the actual player feedback as well, primarily through its growing Discord community.
Nick also revealed that there are some interesting crossover promotions coming up, combining football and poker, and giving players access to weekly freerolls after completing very easy requirements.
The work on the promotional side of things never ends, as fun and valuable offers are one of the biggest reasons players decide if they want to join a site in the first place and, more importantly, if they want to stick around.
It appears that BetRivers Poker has found the right formula that builds on the passion and the experience of the entire team. By giving everyone a chance to share their thoughts on what they think the players would like to see, the operator invites creative chaos that can certainly be messy at times, but also leads to some fresh and original ideas that help BetRivers stand out from its competitors.
