Nearly 1000 Players Qualify for 2023 WSOP Tournament of Champions Nearly 1000 Players Qualify for 2023 WSOP Tournament of Champions

The 2023 WSOP is nearly upon us, and thousands of excited poker players will soon descend upon the Las Vegas Strip to compete in the 54th edition of poker’s richest tournament series.

The pinnacle series kicks off next Tuesday and will stretch over 50 days, culminating in the most-anticipated event of the year, the $10K buy-in Main Event.

While all the focus is on the WSOP Main Event, let’s not forget the special event that brings all the winners of the signature WSOP events together in a tournament called the “Tournament of Champions.”

The Tournament of Champions (TOC) is an invitation-only $1 million freeroll tournament that is open to the champions from the past or ongoing WSOP Circuit season. All those who win gold rings from either live or online circuit events and online or live bracelet winners, including during the WSOP Europe, become eligible for this special event.

In 2022, the event was held at the end of the series. This year, the TOC takes place in the opening week of the live series, kicking off on Wednesday, May 31, and spanning three days.

The tournament is free-to-enter but only available to those that have won a gold ring or bracelet from the 2022-2023 WSOP Circuit season. Despite being a freeroll, the winner of this signature event receives a coveted gold bracelet on top of the first-place prize.

Thus far, 960 players have qualified for the WSOP 2023 Tournament of Champions, competing for a prize pool of $1 million. This means that every player enters the tournament with an EV of over $1000.

With nearly 1000 players eligible for the glory event, it is WSOP US's largest $1 million freeroll tournament ever hosted.

Last year, the tournament was available exclusively to 570 players — of which 470 registered and took part in the freeroll. Ultimately, Benjamin Kaupp from Pennsylvania took down the event to take home $250,000 and his first bracelet. Kaupp qualified for the TOC after winning a $215 buy-in WSOP PA Online Circuit event for nearly $15,000.
