The World Series of Poker returned in 2023 for its 54th outing and it was officially the biggest series in WSOP history.
2023 was the biggest World Series of Poker to ever run. It exceeded turnout and prize pools across the board, generating over $425.2 million over its online and live events, up from over $346.3 million in 2022. The WSOP also welcomed more players than ever before — 250K players made up the 2023 series, up from 198,429 in 2022.
The live series played out in The Horseshoe (formerly Bally’s) and Paris Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada. It ran from May 30 to July 18, 2023. The online series was available for players in Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania and ran from early June through the middle of July.

What is the WSOP 2023?
The WSOP 2023 was the annual live series that takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada each summer. The series is run by the World Series of Poker and heads into its 55th year for 2024. It is a live poker tour staple in the calendar of poker players around the globe attracting record numbers and generating even bigger prize pools.
The Horseshoe Brand Returned to Vegas
After a year of renovations, it became official. Bally’s is no more, and as of March 24, 2023, the casino is now the Horseshoe Las Vegas — owned by Caesars Entertainment.
Americans will be familiar with the Horseshoe Casino brand, having first opened its doors in the early 1950s. The parent company, Caesars Entertainment, now operates 10 Horseshoe properties throughout North America.
“The arrival of Horseshoe on The Strip marks a significant moment for Caesars Entertainment, the Horseshoe name, and the entire destination,” Jason Gregorec, SVP and General Manager of the Horseshoe property in Las Vegas, said via press release. “Not only are we excited for guests to experience the redesigned resort and its latest offerings, but we are also proud to reintroduce the historic gaming brand to Las Vegas.”
Famous faces were front and center during the March 24 ribbon cutting, such as Jack Binion, famed sports bettor Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, and Poker Hall of Fame legend Doyle Brunson.
Not only is the Horseshoe home to the annual World Series of Poker, which takes place each summer, but the Horseshoe is now also home to a one-of-a-kind World Series of Poker Hall of Fame Poker Room.
The poker room aims to bring tournament-style poker to the Las Vegas Strip year-round. It features 18 poker tables and can be found near the Casino’s front entrance.
Those visiting The Horseshoe should also look out for a Hall of Fame exhibit.

WSOP 2023 Schedule, including Prizepool and Turnout
95 live bracelet events and 34 online bracelets made up the full WSOP 2023 schedule.
For the second year running, the entire live portion of the WSOP will take place between two venues in Las Vegas — the Horseshoe Casino (formally Bally’s) and Paris Casino.
Prior to its move to the strip in 2022, the World Series of Poker was hosted in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino for seventeen years — and before that, in the Binion’s Horseshoe in downtown Vegas. But the move has paid off. In 2022, the WSOP broke records — becoming the biggest series in its entire 50+ year history. 2023 saw the brand smash the 2022 record and set new heights for the series.
$346 million in total prize money was paid out across 88 bracelet events, and nearly 200k entrants played in the live series in 2022. In 2023 over $425 million was paid out across 95 live events and 20 online events.

What Online Satellites & Qualifiers Ran for WSOP 2023
The WSOP 2023 had many routes for players to gain entry to the live series through official online poker partners. In almost every jurisdiction where there is legal online poker, players had an opportunity to qualify online.
How Did US Players Qualify?
Players in the US mainly qualified via WSOP US through promotional campaigns or online satellites. The WSOP operates in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and New Jersey.
Notably, the online satellite campaign Seat Sprint gave away 112 seats to the WSOP. In addition, a special 25 Seat Scramble, awarding 25 seats to the Main Event, also ran on the WSOP US.
Daily “All In” Satellites_ ran with no fees, with buy-ins from $80 to $126.
All-In Satellites are rake-free NLH poker tournaments where, at the beginning of the tournament, all players go all-in until there is a winner.
How Did Ontario Players Qualify?
Ontario poker players could qualify for the WSOP via its partner in the province, GGPOKER.CA.
The main promotion that ran in this market was the Road to Vegas where online qualifiers had buy-ins of $15 CAD.
How Did Players Qualify from the Rest of the World, including the UK
Players in the UK and the rest of the world typically headed to the GGPoker client as the best way to qualify for a WSOP seat.
The Road To Las Vegas package sent 500 ClubGG players to Las Vegas in addition to another 100 players that were sent to the WSOP from GGPoker directly.
Online qualifiers to the WSOP Main Event started on GGPoker from just $1.
GGPoker also ran freerolls to the qualifiers, giving players a chance to win a Main Event seat.

GGPoker Ontario WSOP Online 2023
GGPoker unveils the schedule for the 2023 WSOP Online Bracelet series, running from August 20 to October 2.
Ontario online poker players get 8 chances at WSOP bracelets this year with tournament guarantees ranging from C$100K to C$500K. One of the most notable events is the $1,000 Main Event with $500K prize pool.

WSOP Online Bracelet Series 2023
The 2023 WSOP Online Bracelet Series on GGPoker returns for its fourth iteration this summer.
Starting August 20, the international online portion of the 2023 WSOP gets underway exclusively on the GGPoker platform, and runs until October 2.
There are 33 bracelets up for grabs across the nearly two-month-long festival, with bracelet events running nearly every other day. Nine of these events have guarantees, totaling $60 million in prize money. Buy-ins start at $100 and go up to $25,000.
The WSOP Online 2023 Main Event also makes its return. It has a buy-in of $5000 and a $25 million guarantee — $5 million more than last year.

WSOP US Online Bracelet Series in 2023
The WSOP Online Bracelet Series returned in 2023! The series ran from early June into mid-July on WSOP.com in all four US states where WSOP operates:
- Nevada and New Jersey — on WSOP NJ & WSOP NV in one combined cross-state series
- Michigan — on WSOP MI
- Pennsylvania — on WSOP PA
Combined, the online series generated $22 million in prize money.
In Michigan and Pennsylvania, there were separate seven-bracelet schedules. Over on the shared network of WSOP New Jersey and WSOP Nevada, there were 20 events running up from just 13 in 2022.

WSOP NJ & NV Online Bracelet Series 2023: June 1 to July 16
The 2023 WSOP Online Bracelet Series on the combined WSOP New Jersey/Nevada network ran from June 1 to July 16 and featured 20 events.
Buy-ins ranged from $333 to $5,300, averaging $1,285 per event. The majority of online bracelet events ran on Sundays — with a few scheduled on weekdays and Saturdays.
June 4, June 18, and July 16 were double bracelet days, meaning two lucky players took home a WSOP bracelet on those days.
WSOP Online Bracelet events usually ran at either 3:30 PM PST or 4:30 PM PST.
WSOP Online Bracelet NJ and NV: Key Highlights
- Old-time favorite $1000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Championship returned with a PLO 6-max event, Summer Saver
- A NEW: $1000-priced PLO Championship ran
- A NEW: 6-max Championship ran
The series also saw the return of the hybrid online-live event where the entire final table is played in a live casino as part of the WSOP series.

WSOP Michigan Online Bracelet Series 2023: June 4 to 16
The online bracelet series on WSOP MI ran from June 4 through to July 16 and will feature seven events.
The bracelet events were scheduled to run every Sunday at 6:30 PM PST for seven consecutive weeks. It was only the second time the online bracelet events ran on WSOP MI alongside the live summer series.
Buy-ins started from $300 and went up to $600 — which is what buy-ins will be expected to be for the 2024 WSOP.

Daniel Weinman beat a field of 10,043 players to become the WSOP Main Event winner for 2023. He took home $12.1 million in prize money as well as a gold bracelet and bragging rights. 2006 Main Event winner Jamie Gold presented Weinman with his Main Event bracelet at the event in Las Vegas.

2023 WSOP Player of the Year: Ian Matakis
Ian Matakis is officially the WSOP 2023 Player of the Year. With a mix of both online and live cashes, Matakis cashed 22 times this series, winning over $881K in prize money. Nine of the 22 cashes came via WSOP.com through online events.
