Stake goes legit in Alberta, but online poker players will have to wait.

Stake Canada Ltd, a subsidiary of the Australian Stake Gaming and Easygo Group, has just scored iGaming registration from Alberta’s regulator, the AGLC.

This means Stake will be able to launch a licensed online casino and sportsbook in Alberta in the coming weeks, although they’re still waiting for the green light in Ontario.

Alberta poker players shouldn’t get too excited, though. As it stands, Stake’s initial offering won’t include online poker or fantasy sports.

According to PokerNews, Jurojin Poker, a software suite designed to streamline online poker, had its update packages compromised between June 2025 and June 2026.

The attacker slipped in a remote-access tool to gain a peek at players’ screens, exposing hole cards and compromising about 30 high-stakes players.

Jurojin says they’ve contacted everyone affected and have taken steps to stop it happening again. Their statement reads:

This week, our investigation found that between June 2025 and June 2026, an attacker was able to intermittently replace the update package delivered to one specific group of Jurojin users with a tampered version. June 2026 was the last compromised month. Some of those packages included a remote-access tool.

So if you were wondering why your bluffs weren’t working, maybe check your software before your strategy.

PokerStars on FanDuel is making moves in the US online poker scene, and the competition is feeling the pinch
