Online poker room GGPoker has acquired a license to offer online poker in the Ukraine, becoming the third operator to be approved in the Eastern European country.

It marks the operator’s continued expansion into regulated markets, with concerted licensing efforts in half a dozen European jurisdictions made in the last year.

The site will operate on the GGPoker.UA domain name and is expected to connect to the global GGPoker Network, or GGPN, with access to the global player pool.

“GGPoker is finally coming to Ukraine!,” said Sergii Romanenko, CEO GGPoker.ua, in an exclusive statement to PRO. “We have secured a license and are ready to celebrate this together with the thousands of poker players who have been waiting for our arrival for so long.”

The news of its Ukrainian license was first reported by Russian-language consumer website WorldPokerDeals earlier this month. PRO has since confirmed that, while it was indeed issued a license on August 17, it will not launch until subsequent legislation—apparently in the works by the Ukrainian parliament—clarifies taxation rules.

“We are still on standby for now,” Romanenko told PRO, “as the Ukrainian parliament is working on adopting streamlined and clear taxation rules, which will facilitate a solid foundation for the gaming market.”
