Kindred Group’s online poker room Unibet has laid out plans on how to proceed if the proposed new online gambling law in Germany goes into effect as planned.
In the dedicated thread on the Two Plus Two and Unibet’s own Community forum, a site representative mentioned that the operator has specific measures in place to severely limit the options of German poker players.
“As you may be aware, a new turnover tax on gambling is expected to come into effect in Germany from the 1st of July 2021. This new tax will have a big impact on poker,” wrote Unibet’s site representative.
These measures include the removal of the loyalty program but more notably the removal of cash games and the traditional sit and gos for German players. Multi table tournaments and Hexapro, the operator’s lottery sit and go variant, are foreseen to remain available.
Unibet will cover the cost of the tax “but this may be subject to change in the future,” as outlined by the Unibet spokesperson in the thread.
