BetMGM was among the nine operators approved for mobile sports wagering licenses by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) in November 2021. The self-proclaimed “King of Sportsbooks” is the fifth brand to go live following the successful launch of BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel, all of which started accepting wagers as of January 8.

While slightly late to the party, BetMGM will be a force to be reckoned with in the Big Apple and they have certainly come prepared. Shortly after clinching a license in New York, they put pen to paper on a multi-year marketing partnership with Madison Square Garden Sports Corporation (MSGS) and Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corporation (MSGE).

BetMGM is the official sports betting partner for MSG — one of the most iconic arenas in the world of sports, as well as the home of NBA’s New York Knicks and NHL’s New York Rangers. The brand will also have plenty of exposure during the live coverage of New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders hockey games on top of that.

Whether or not the brand will open a retail sportsbook at the Empire City Casino in Yonkers, NY, remains to be seen. However, sports fans in New York can certainly look forward to exclusive VIP experiences for the city’s biggest sports events and at local MGM Resorts properties such as the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in New Jersey.

“With today’s monumental news, we’ll now be able to fully activate our relationships with MGM Resorts’ Empire City Casino and Madison Square Garden,” said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt in the official press release. “We look forward to offering customers in New York unique experiences that they can’t access on any other platform.

Exclusive Launch Promotions and a Look Ahead

As part of the welcome offer in the Empire State, BetMGM customers can take advantage of a bonus bet up to $1,000. After making a deposit and placing their first bet, new customers will receive the amount of the wager back in free bets if the inaugural bet loses.

Another special offer is available on the tail end of the NFL’s Wild Card Weekend. All customers who bet $10 on any NFL team for the opening stage of the playoffs will automatically earn a $200 bonus if any team scores a touchdown. This provides an additional boost right away ahead of the season’s most important games.

The BetMGM app is available for Android and iOS devices and customers can soon unlock points for the newly revamped MGM Rewards loyalty program as well. The new rewards program goes live on February 1, 2022, and features status point rewards for both, gaming and non-gaming activities, which will also be available for New Yorkers as well. VIP experiences involving the Knicks and Rangers can be expected in the future according to the operator.

While it was not possible to place wagers this past weekend, residents of the Empire State can now join the action for the final game of the NFL’s Super Wild Card Weekend between the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals. The user-friendly mobile app offers the chance to customize pre-game, in-play, futures, and parlay wagers.
