Resorts World Bet is one step closer to launching its online sportsbook — and, for the first time anywhere, an online casino product — in New Jersey, a document from the state regulator shows.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) said in a November filing that it had completed its review of a partnership between Ocean Resort Casino and an entity named RW Bet NJ LLC. The pair had requested authorization “to conduct internet gaming and sports wagering related business transactions” in the Garden State.

According to the NJDGE, Ocean Resort signed an online market access agreement with Resorts World in December 2022. The regulator gave Resorts World until May 4, 2024 to complete two categories of payments outlined under the agreement.

“This transactional waiver will be only for the narrow scope of approving payments pursuant to [two sections] of the agreement,” NJDGE said. “The parties require additional approval to effectuate any other portion of the agreement.”

The filing suggests that Resorts World is closer to being able to offer mobile sports wagering and casino gaming sometime in the near future, but likely in 2024.

Jeremy Kleiman, a gaming law attorney and member of the firm Saiber LLC, said he could not comment on when Resorts World could possibly enter both verticals, citing attorney-client confidentiality. Kleiman, a frequent contributor to Poker Industry PRO, is listed as counsel for the agreement.
