Event #27: $1000 Seniors No-Limit Hold’em Championship had the largest field for a seniors event in World Series of Poker history attracting 4,499 entrants. In the end it was 54 year old Johnnie Craig from Baytown, Texas that conquered the field to take home $538,204 in prize money.
Speaking of his victory, the ex military veteran and now restaurateur, Craig, said, “I kept my head down during the final table. I was concentrating so much on the hands that I didn’t realize how many chips I had until one time when I looked up, and then looked around the table, and I found out I had the chip lead!”
Movie producer Jamshid Lotfi finished as runner up taking home $332,413.
Recap – Event #30: $3000 Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha
34 year old Russian poker pro Viatcheslav Ortynskiy collected the top prize of $344,327 winning Event #30.
Ortynskiy is primarily an online poker player but is a regular in on the European Poker Tour circuit—this is his first WSOP gold bracelet win. Struggling to the find the words after this win, Ortynskiy could only say that the win was “amazing.”
Cheered on by several Russian supporters, the final table was a festive experience with lots of cheering and chanting from the gallery.
The tournament attracted 580 entrants which created a prize pool totaling $1,583,400. The top 87 finishers collected prize money
Second place went to Rafael Lebron, from Puyallup, WA.
Events Finishing Today—Will Mercier win his third bracelet?
Jens Grieme and Alexander Ziskin are battling it out head to head over in Event #29: $1500 No-Limit Hold’em as play gets extended into an additional day. Jens Grieme from Germany is currently in the chip lead with 7,790,000 over Ziskin’s 5,690,000 and 200 hands of heads up action have already passed between them.
Event #31: $1000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold’em finishes up today with Fred Berger seeking his second career bracelet as he leads Day 3 of the Super Seniors event. He last won a gold bracelet back in 2009. Defending Champion Jon Andlovec came into Day 2 as the chip leader but got knocked out by Berger in 20th place.
Maureen Feduniak is the only women left in the running in the field of thirteen men—cashing to date 11 times in her WSOP career. In total, fourteen players remain for the last day of action.
Event #32: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship also concludes today, and all eyes will be on the final table as Jason Mercier makes a run for this third gold bracelet of the series.
At the time of writing, Mercier is currently in 8th position with 444,000 chips and is loving his chances going into Day 3 of winning the event.
However, Matt Glantz is out stripping everyone as chip leader sitting with a stack of 1,066,000. Todd Brunson is currently sitting in fourth and Shaun Deeb is still in the running in 14th place.
