- NZ $3k main event underway in Queenstown.
- Three appointed to represent Full Tilt Poker at the event.
- First dates set for season 6.
The Main Event of the final stop of Season 5 of PokerStars’ Australian New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) kicked off yesterday in Queenstown, New Zealand.
The NZ$3,000 tournament, held in the comfy confines of the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino, is set to have 3 Day 1 flights as the first 40 players registered and played a quick day of 5 one hour levels on Day 1a. At the end of the shortened day, Australia’s Michael Chon sat atop the leaderboard and will return, with the other 26 who survived, on Friday to continue play.
While this is a PokerStars event, news was made by their sister site, Full Tilt Poker, which announced three new Tour Ambassadors to the ANZPT: Professional poker players Tom Grigg, Jono Karamalikis and Liam O’ Rourke have all been signed by Full Tilt to be patched up when they take to the live felt and be branded “Red Pros” when playing online. They all are participating in the Queenstown event and are expected to be present in prelims and special events moving forward as well.
The news follows the announcement last week of four ambassadors at the UKIPT Galway, which is currently underway. Previously, temporary FTP reps have been appointed for the Brazil Series of Poker and Eureka! poker tours.
PokerStars also took the opportunity yesterday to confirm a select group of dates for Season 6 of the ANZPT which will begin on November 20 at SKYCITY Auckland for the NZ$2,200 Main Event. The tour then returns to Australia on February 26th at the Crown Perth and continues on March 20 at The Star in Sydney both hosting a AU$2,200 Main Event.
