Yesterday saw poker rivals Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Dan “jungleman12” Cates take their seats on the virtual felt to, once again, resume the drawn out high-stakes heads-up “Durrrr” Challenge II.
The pair played one of their longest sessions in recent memory at the $200/$400 NLHE tables on Full Tilt Poker as they sat for over three hours while getting in 1485 hands.
At the end of the session it was Cates who extended his already formidable lead by taking another $197k from the Full Tilt Professional.
The see-saw session had both with 6-figure leads at some point during the match, with Dwan hitting a high point of $150k according to the Full Tilt Poker blog.
In the end though, with 1000 hands under their belts, Cates went on a heater and over the final 450+ hands ran it up for another dominant 6-figure winning session. With the $197.6k victory, Cates extended his Challenge lead to the tune of roughly $1.5M.
As per the original deal of the Challenge, if Cates is up at the end of 50k hands, Dwan would have to pay Cates an additional $1.5 million. If Dwan was able to turn things around and end up even $1 ahead, Cates will owe $500k. Although, as reported by PokerListings, there may be a new deal in place between Cates and Dwan.
“We’ve come to a new agreement,” Cates explained. “With the deal we have now, I’ll make money either way.” The details of the new agreement have yet to be made public.
