The list of ten finalists for possible induction into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2013 have been released. After a public nomination process, as well as vetting by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council, the list was paired down to ten with many being among the most recognizable names on the poker landscape.
The 2013 Poker Hall of Fame Finalist List includes, in alphabetical order: Chris Bjorin, Humberto Brenes, David Chiu, Thor Hansen, Jennifer Harman, Mike Matusow, Tom McEvoy, Carlos Mortensen, Scotty Nguyen and Huckleberry Seed.
Of the names on the list, six were nominated in 2012 (Bjorin, Chiu, Hansen, Harman, McEvoy and Nguyen). Huckleberry Seed was a finalist in 2011 and Brenes, Matusow and 2001 WSOP Main Event Champion, Mortensen have been included for the first time in 2013.
Up to two of these well known poker personalities will be enshrined in 2013 as ballots will be cast by the 19 living current Hall of Fame members as well as an 18-person media panel. These 37 ballots will be delivered to the voters next week and must be returned to the WSOP Governing Council by October 11.
The criteria for consideration by the voters has been laid out as players who are over 40, played against acknowledged top competition, played for high stakes, played consistently well and thus gaining respect of their peers and have stood the test of time.
