- Daniel Negreanu leads the Bluff magazine and CardPlayer.com Player of the Year rankings and is in second place on the Global Poker Index.
- A second place at the PokerStars EPT Barcelona High Roller event cemented his lead.
- His best year was in 2004 when he was Card Player PoY and WSOP PoY after winning the third of his 5 WSOP bracelets.
The ever popular Daniel Negreanu is looking good to replicate his blow out year in 2004, as he leads Player of the Year (PoY) rankings at Bluff Magazine and CardPlayer.com.
However, he hasn’t quite got the trifecta yet—despite reports earlier in the week that he’d made #1 on the Global Poker Index, it seems he’s going to have to settle for #2 for now.
And he has the current PoY #1 Ole Schemion to thank for that: His min-cash in the EPT High Roller kept kidpoker just shy of the top spot, pokerfuse has been told.
The three ranking sites use different methods to calculate player rankings—both the tournaments that qualify and the way the buy in and prizes are used to produce the points vary from site to site.
For example, Ole Schemion is at the top of GPI, but he’s not even in the top 10 on Card Player’s and sits fourth on Bluff Magazine’s. Given the variance the ranking methods introduce, Daniel Negreanu’s appearance at the top of three lists is even more impressive—he’s been remarkably consistent and played a wide range of events over the course of this year.
In 2004, he became both Card Player of the Year and the WSOP Player of the Year. He won the $10k Borgata Poker Open for $1.1m and picked up the third of his five WSOP bracelets in a $2k No Limit Hold’em event.
