Carbon Poker, the flagship website of the Merge Gaming Network, is changing its VIP loyalty program structure once again as of July 15.
The latest changes will eliminate the ability of players to use earned points to buy-in to tournaments and will also force them to utilize any unused points before July 15 or lose them altogether.
Currently, Carbon Poker players earn 1 “VIP Point” for each $0.10 contributed in cash game or tournament rake.
Carbon will introduce “Player Points” as part of the new program which will be “used as a promotional tool to clear bonuses and track promotions.”
Player Point balances will be reset each month and will have no cash value.
The move represents the third major change to the way players are rewarded for their loyalty at Merge Gaming since January 2013 when the network ended its rakeback program. In the months following the change, the network lost approximately 25% of its average cash game traffic.
This past October, Merge reduced the number of VIP Tiers its players could qualify for and made the top tier available by invitation only.
Former network skin Aced Poker closed its business operations last week—migrating its player base to Carbon Poker.
