BetMGM is Spreading Big Online Poker Series Across All US Markets This August

BetMGM USA is running poker series in all three of its main US poker rooms during August.

The Pennsylvania and Michigan Online Series run concurrently between August 15 and 22, while the New Jersey edition starts a week earlier, running from August 8 to 15.

Players in NJ can also look forward to a $50,000 Invitational Freeroll tournament at the end of the month.

Pennsylvania Online Series

The PA series has $220,000 in total guarantees and consists of 10 events—giving an average prize pool of $22,000 per tournament.

This is down on the comparative numbers from BetMGM’s debut series in the Keystone State, which saw $270,000 guaranteed, giving an average of $27,000. Even so, given the quiet traffic given the time of year, there is certainly overlay potential here—so there could be a lot of value for players.

Indeed, that last batch of tournaments saw huge overlays throughout, and with traffic on the site somewhat lower than it was back then, a more conservative target is certainly sensible option.

Even so, players will want to keep an eye on the BetMGM lobby, as the prospect of some overlay value remains likely.

Buy-ins range from just $20 all the way up to $535, so there are events suited to all bankrolls. As you would expect, most of the events are straight Hold’em tournaments but there is a $320 Progressive KO with $20,000 guaranteed on August 19, and a $109 6 Max PLO with $10,000 promised on August 18.

Other highlights include the series opener: a $35,000 guaranteed Hold’em event with a $215 price tag—and the series finale: the $50,000 guaranteed NLH with a $535 buy-in.

Michigan Online Series

The Michigan Online Series carries $330,000 worth of total guarantees. With a total of 11 events, that is an average of $30,000—considerably higher than the corresponding figure in Pennsylvania. This is in keeping with the higher traffic levels on the site.

The overall feel of the series is similar to that in PA—largely comprised of Hold’em events, with one Progressive KO, and a PLO tournament.

The events are ordered differently but the main difference is the higher buy-ins and guarantees, with a $535, $50,000 GTD event kicking off the series, and a $1060 tournament rounding it off, carrying a whopping $100,000 guarantee.

Whether or not those guarantees are reached without overlays, remains to be seen. In its short life, BetMGM MI has already run four series, with tournaments consistently falling short of their targets. As with Pennsylvania, Michigan players should be on the lookout for some major value during the series.

New Jersey Online Series

Again, the overall feel in New Jersey is very similar to the series in PA and MI. There are 11 events, and $240,500 in total guarantees. The one big difference that is immediately obvious is the inclusion of a $215 Satellite for the $3500, $1 million GTD Borgata Poker Open.

Aside from the Online Series this month, BetMGM NJ is treating players to a $50K Invitational Freeroll tournament. The event takes place on August 29 and to qualify, players simply need to earn 50 iRPs between August 1 and 28. There are 215 prizes for the taking, with a $3500 ticket going to the winner.

The Online Series in Pennsylvania and Michigan take place between August 15 and August 22, and in New Jersey from August 8 through 15.
