BetMGM Poker has unveiled its first online poker festival of 2022 — The Double Trouble Series. Events kick off on Friday, January 21, and run for ten days, through Sunday, January 30.
The series is taking place in all three jurisdictions: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. There are 20 events on each schedule at BetMGM Poker, but two versions of each event, making for a total of 40 separate tournaments in each state.
The first tournament in each pair is of a standard format, while the second is a progressive knockout. The schedule is exactly the same throughout all three states, albeit with slight variations in the guarantees.
The biggest series is in New Jersey, where $364k is guaranteed across the 40 tournaments. This is tweaked down just slightly in Michigan ($334k), and Pennsylvania ($324k), which is not too surprising given that the latter two poker rooms have both been live for less than a year.
BetMGM Double Trouble Series: Key Facts and Numbers
- 20 events, each with regular and PKO versions
- Starts January 21 and runs for ten days, through January 30.
- Running in New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania with the same schedule.
- Total guarantees of $364,000 (NJ), $334,000 (MI) and $324,000 (PA).
For the most part, the events on offer are at the more affordable end of the spectrum — 24 of the 40 tournaments have buy-ins of $50 or under. Larger bankrolls are also catered to, with price points all the way up to $535.
All the tournaments have unlimited rebuy periods and the vast majority are No-Limit Hold’em but, for fans of Omaha, events #10 and #17 provide four chances to play PLO.

A Closer Look at the Schedules
Events get underway with $109 NLH tournaments, carrying $10,000 guarantees in each state. The next big highlight on the program is event #5 — two $215 tournaments, with $25,000 guaranteed in MI and PA, and $30,000 in NJ.
The biggest buy-in is for event #9 — $535 NLH tournaments in each format, with $15,000 guaranteed in each state.
While there is no official Main Event, the penultimate fixture on Sunday, January 30 is clearly one to look out for: another brace of $215 tournaments — again, with a $25,000 prize pool in MI and PA, and $30,000 in NJ.
BetMGM Series Coming Thick and Fast
BetMGM Poker is gaining a reputation for its sheer volume of series with big guarantees. Double Trouble will be the fourth online festival that the operator has put on in the last two months.
The Darren Elias-fronted End Boss series in November saw huge Main Event prize pools, with the flagship contest in NJ generating over $42,000.
Then came the Cheap Stakes series, with its lower buy-ins catering for tighter budgets over the Christmas period. That was swiftly followed by the partypoker US network’s New Year Knockout Mini-Series which spanned the end of year celebrations.
While it is struggling to make a dent in PokerStars’ dominance of the US market, BetMGM’s desire to provide great value tournaments appears to be undiminished.
This latest series is another fine example of that. The guarantees are ambitious — and players should be on the lookout for overlays — but the operator’s hard work and persistence should be acknowledged and, if the volume of series carries on throughout 2022, it will surely attract more players.
The Double Trouble series takes place from Friday, January 21 until Sunday, January 30, 2022.
