For the second installment of our PRO Predicts 2022 series — where we gaze into our crystal ball and speculate what could be in store for the upcoming year — this time, we turn our attention to PokerStars.
A lot transpired for the behemoth in 2021. It was the year it lost its crown as the world’s leading number one room in cash game traffic to rising force GGPoker.
Aside from facing some heated competition, there were plenty of positive things that happened for the operator last year.
- It expanded in the US market by launching in Michigan — its third state in the regulated market of the US
- It hosted two nine-figure tournament series
- Signed up a dozen new poker ambassadors
- Rolled out new games and features
- Formed new partnerships simplified its game offerings.
- In perhaps the most audacious move of all — deployed new rewards, increasing its transparency and switching back to the traditional volume-based cashback
The new rewards program boosted its traffic and helped it retain the number one spot in terms of cash game traffic and ultimately ending on a high note.
