Ontario online poker players now have the chance to take part in the newly launched Bet & Go tournaments on GGPoker Ontario. The intriguing poker format invented by GGPoker combines elements of sports betting with poker in one unique game.
Much like sports betting, a player’s monetary value at the Bet & Go game depends on the outcome of the linked football match, as players root for one of the two competing teams.
For its inaugural version, the Bet & Go game has been tied to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Canada, the home of GGPoker Ontario, is among the 32 countries that have qualified for the World Cup, making its 2nd appearance since 1986.
It’s no surprise that GGPoker Ontario (which operates in partnership with WSOP) would launch Bet & Go tournaments to celebrate Canada’s entry to the World Cup.

“With Bet & Go tournaments, GGPoker players can support their favorite teams or simply take advantage of the biggest discounts and cheer for the underdogs,” said Daniel Negreanu, GGPoker Global Ambassador in a recent press release. “Watch your team win the event, and you’ll be free to continue to play your way into the money; it could be a win-win for you!”
How the Bet & Go tournament works: Ahead of the start of the linked match or during the game, players are presented with two buy-in options — both available at a discounted price. The discount is relative to the team’s odds, so the underdog team will have a more significant discount, while the team that is favored to win will have a smaller discount.
The odds keep changing in real time as the game progresses, depending on the game’s status.
Now, this is where the format becomes interesting. The outcome of the linked soccer match significantly impacts the Bet & Go players’ survival. Those who picked the winning team will continue in the tournament, while those who chose the losing side will be eliminated immediately and their stacks removed.
If the game ends in a draw or tie, all the players proceed as usual, and the tournament resumes, just like a regular tournament. If late registration is still available, players, including those eliminated, can re-enter at the standard buy-in of $10.
While the Bet & Go tournaments are already well underway for international players on the GGPoker client at GGPoker Ontario, the format will debut on November 23, coinciding with Canada’s first game.
As Canada will play three group games, the operator has deployed three Bet & Go tournaments, with the first taking place against Belgium on Wednesday. While the standard buy-in of Bet & Go tournaments is $10, those that enter ahead or during the football game will join with a discounted price of $7.28 (those who pick Belgium) and $1.72 (those who root for Canada).

The games against Croatia and Morocco will take place on November 27 and December 1, respectively. All three tournaments come with CAD $2022 guaranteed prize money, with players receiving a 10,000 starting stack. Blinds go up every 10 minutes and then every 5 minutes once late registration ends, which runs until level 14. Players can re-enter the tournament unlimited times; only 5% of the field is paid out.
