The first ever online poker festival in Ontario dedicated exclusively to mystery bounty tournaments concluded at 888poker Ontario on March 6 and proved to be a great success.
More than 5000 runners joined the 30 events that ran over more than two weeks of non-stop mystery bounty action, and hundreds of thousands in prize money were handed out to the lucky winners.
888poker Ontario made sure that everyone could enjoy the inaugural Mystery Bounty Festival, with buy-ins ranging from the lowest to the highest stakes. All tournaments had one thing in common, though, as they were all played using the same mystery bounty format, which has become increasingly popular in the poker community in recent months.
We take a look back at the Festival and the major events winners as we wait for the future 888poker Ontario series that are guaranteed to come around in the following weeks and month.

Opening Ceremony Champion Bags $4.5k
Mystery Bounty Festival kicked off on February 19 with the $109 Opening Ceremony event, which featured a guaranteed prize pool of CAD $35,000. The event attracted 307 entries, which were not enough to meet its guarantee, so players were effectively playing without rake and with some overlay up for grabs.
The tournament’s top mystery bounty was worth $3500, and it went to “Midnite89” who only managed an 18th place finish and a small cash on top of that, but nearly matched the prize won by the champion.
First place prize went to “jadedjason” who also won $965 in bounties and took home a total of $4512 for his troubles, just slightly more than third placed “iamEklo” who won $2291 in bounty cashes and bagged a grand total of $4155.
Plenty of players managed a great start to the series in the Opening Ceremony, which was only a prelude to what was to come in the following days of the Mystery Bounty Festival.
Main Event Warmup Goes to “Josh_Degen”
Another major $109 event of the Festival took place on March 27, in preparation for the Main Event. The Main Event Warmup event featured a guaranteed prize pool of $40,000, which was just slightly exceeded, courtesy of the 403 total entries.
The eventual champion “Josh_Degen” also won the lion’s share of the prize pool, totaling $7816 in cash prize and bounties, more than twice as much as the second placed finisher “mgray3727.”
However, the biggest bounty in this one, worth $4k, went to the 11th place finisher “Rykin671,” who also cashed the event for another $255 and a solid score.
With the Warmup event done, all was set for the Main Event festivities and the final showdown with a CAD $100k guaranteed prize pool.

Main Event Sees Slight Overlay
The 888poker Ontario $250 Mystery Bounty Main Event culminated in its final day on March 6. Out of the total 397 entries, 36 players managed to make the money, with the title of champion eventually going to “Jefffrr8” who won just under $15,000 for his troubles.
SKnolimit, who finished the tournament in 13th place, won the biggest mystery bounty worth $10,000, and thus became the second-highest paid player in this event, with another $772 in other prizes collected.
The conclusion of the Main Event also meant the end to the first-ever Mystery Bounty Festival at 888poker Ontario, but the event’s success all but guarantees its return in future seasons.
