PokerStars’ presence and influence in North America has been expanding for some years now, with the launch of PokerStars Ontario last year being a major development in that regard. Now, PokerStars has announced the launch of the inaugural North America Championship of Online Poker (NACOOP), which will encompass all the jurisdictions in which PokerStars is available on the continent — Ontario, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
While the name may be new, the series itself is not, as we have already seen the operator run its “COOP” series across its Pokerstars US real money platforms, but the festival will now be played simultaneously under a singular branding.
The first-ever NACOOP is scheduled to kick off on September 15 and runs until October 2, with more than 260 unique events and over $7 Million in guaranteed prizes across three separate player pools.
PokerStars players in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ontario have plenty to be excited about, as the Championship promises some huge prize pools, competitive poker, and a chance to win a 24 Karat Gold NACOOP Main Event champion’s trophy in the process.

Three Jurisdictions, One Championship
For the first time ever, PokerStars has decided to put all their North American “COOP” series under the same umbrella and run an official NACOOP, a unique Championship that could turn into a true spectacle in the future, as interstate poker in the US becomes a reality.
At this time, PokerStars US shares liquidity between Its New Jersey and Michigan player pools, allowing players from these states to play the NACOOP events together. For this reason, the “USCOOP,” as PokerStars also calls the NJ-MI Championship, will feature the biggest guaranteed prize pool of $3 Million.
Over on PokerStars PA, players will be playing for a total guarantee of $2.5 Million in “PACOOP,” which is the name given to the series in the Keystone State.
Finally, players in Canada’s biggest province will have a chance to join the first-ever NACOOP via “ONCOOP” tournaments on the PokerStars Ontario real money platform, featuring a total of $1.5 Million (CAD $2 Million) in guarantees.
The $7 million in prizes will be spread across 89 unique NACOOP events, with each event available in each of the three jurisdictions, for a grand total of over 260 tournaments across the entire NACOOP schedule.
The NACOOP will offer events in different poker variations and formats, including Omaha, Razz, 2-7 Triple Draw, Seven Card Stud, Mixed Games, and more.

From Low Stakes to High Rollers
In its original announcement of the inaugural NACOOP, PokerStars has hinted that the buy-ins for the Championship will range from just $10 all the way to $2500+. This was further confirmed by the recently revealed NACOOP schedule.
The Main Event, which will be the highlight of the Championship and offer the most coveted trophy, will come at a price of $300 in all three liquidity pools, with guarantees of $250K in PA and $350K in NJ/MI. The Championship will offer a total of 20 trophy events (in each jurisdiction).
The $2500 High Roller Championship will be an interesting event geared at professional players with big bankrolls, offering a generous guarantee of $150,000 in both PA and NJ/MI.
We should get more details on the upcoming NACOOP in the days to follow, as the Championship is now just over three weeks away, and the time is short to prepare for action.
