PokerStars The Big Game Returns: New Loose Cannon Off to a Rough Start PokerStars The Big Game Returns: New Loose Cannon Off to a Rough Start

After a short break, the third season of the popular PokerStars The Big Game is back with a brand new Loose Cannon and a whole new lineup!

After the first six episodes, Nikki Limo, the first Loose Cannon, didn’t manage to make a profit over the initial $50,000 she was staked, but she still walked away with an experience that she’ll remember for many years to come.

Now, it’s time for Lily Newhouse, the second qualifier, to take her seat in The Big Game against the likes of Phil ‘Unabomber’ Laak, Maria Ho, Sam Grafton, Dave Krosky, and Michael Ian Black.

All things considered, this is certainly not an easy lineup, and due to a pretty bad cooler early on in the session, Newhouse got off to a bad start but managed to stay in the game and rebuild her stack somewhat.

Newhouse Welcomed to the Game With a Cooler

In most episodes of The Big Game we’ve seen, it took Loose Cannons some time to really get into the mix. However, Newhouse found herself in a tough spot against Sam Grafton only a few hands into the session.

Having picked up AK-suited in an early position, she kicked things off with a standard raise to $700. Grafton opted to just call with pocket Jacks in the cutoff and they proceeded to see the flop that contained both an Ace and a Jack.

Lily fired a standard continuation bet and then proceeded to call Grafton’s flop raise, bringing the pot to over $8,000. A ten on the turn did not slow Sam down, as he bet $9,000, and Newhouse made the call once more.

The river brought another Ace, and despite having a bad feeling about the hand, Lily could not find a fold with top trips when Grafton fired again for $22,000, and right off the bat, her starting stack of $50,000 was reduced to just $14,000.

One positive thing in this whole situation is that Newhouse didn’t let this bad start discourage her. For the rest of the session, she kept on battling, building back up to $21,000, which gives her more than enough ammo to use and make profit over the remaining 120 hands.

Another Cooler

The Loose Cannon wasn’t the only player to experience a bad cooler early on. The only other lady at the table, Maria Ho found herself on the wrong end of a set over set situation against Ian Black.

Maria’s flopped set of 5s was no match for Black’s set of 9s, and all chips went into the middle on the turn. Interestingly enough, Black even said he had a set of 9s, but you can’t actually take poker players at their word, and certainly not when you flop the second nuts.

This hand actually happened just before the Newhouse cooler, so Maria started the session stuck $50,000, which is never a great feeling but also not something a player of her caliber will be too worried about.

A Start that Promises Plenty of Action

The second part of The Big Game Season 3 is certainly off to an exciting start. While most fans are rooting for the Loose Cannon, the fact she had a rough first session doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

Since the Loose Cannon can only keep profits over the original $50,000, Newhouse will have more reason to get involved with the action and take some risks. This could lead to some interesting developments and fun hands.

In any case, it’s good to see The Big Game back, and new episodes will air on the PokerStars YouTube channel on weekends, so we have something to look forward to for the next few weeks!
