There are signs that the void that was left when PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker stopped serving US players is beginning to be filled, as players have started flocking to the Merge Gaming Network. According to PokerScout, and independent tracker of poker room traffic, Merge has soared into the top 10 in rankings of traffic worldwide.
Their peak number of players has also increased dramatically. Since the biggest two poker rooms have left the US market, the Merge Gaming Network has seen a 92% increase in peak number of players according to numbers posted by PokerScout.com. It seems the network is handling the increased traffic just fine. There have been no reports of server issues or any other traffic related problems.
If the past is any indication of the future, Merge could be in for quite a run. It was after Party Gaming left the US market following the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIEGA) in 2006 that PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker experienced their meteoric rises to the top of the online poker world.
