- PokerStars adds SMS Validation to its security suite.
- Irregular account access will trigger an account lock and initiate an SMS message with a code to unlock the account.
- Players can opt in to the SMS Validation section of the Account menu in the software client.
PokerStars has introduced an SMS validation option to reduce the vulnerability of player account to unauthorized access.
Players who opt in will receive an SMS text message should any account irregularities be detected by PokerStars’ security systems.
If an alert is received, PokerStars will suspend all financial transactions on the account until the player provides the code number included in the SMS message. This will prevent anyone except the legitimate account holder from playing real money games, transferring funds or cashing out.
The new system will be deployed first for accounts in a shortlist of countries, and expanded globally following feedback from users.
“The service is free to all players and adds an additional security mechanism to help PokerStars player accounts remain safe and secure against online threats,” said Michael Josem, Head of Public Relations at PokerStars.
Players can opt in to the system by registering a mobile phone number to receive SMS messages and then activating it in the “SMS Security Options” section under the Account menu in the PokerStars client.
