The best Formula 1 drivers on the planet will descend on Austin, Texas, to race in the 18th Grand Prix of the year.

The 2023 United States Grand Prix will be the first of a triple-header of F1 events, followed by successive races in Mexico City and São Paulo.

Max Verstappen has already defended his Drivers World Championship title with a second-place finish two weekends ago in Qatar’s sprint race, and he secured his 14th win of the season by conquering the Qatar Grand Prix the following day.

The flying Dutchman has been as dominant as ever by winning all but 3 of 17 races this year. He is the main favorite for the US Grand Prix victory, but you will hardly get rich backing Max at -450 odds. Could we potentially go elsewhere in search of an upset and a big payout?

Friday’s qualifying session will determine the starting order for Sunday’s race, while the sprint shootout sets the grid for the sprint race. Saturday’s sprint and Sunday’s races are now considered separate entities, as the drivers earn points for the F1 Championships on both occasions.

Circuit of the Americas Report and Past Winners

The Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, has hosted the United States Grand Prix since 2012. The track offers drivers and spectators a unique experience with state-of-the-art architecture and engineering. The track in Texas replicates some of the iconic corners from other popular courses around the planet. The uphill climb to Turn 1 thus pays homage to the Red Bull Ring’s elevation changes in Austria, while the Essen section mirrors the famous Maggots-Becketts-Chapel complex.

Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in the history of the US Grand Prix, with six wins, five of which have come to the Circuit of the Americas. Nevertheless, he is winless in four consecutive races here, although we say that he came very close last year, allowing Max Verstappen to overtake him with just five laps to go. Max is now searching for his third subsequent win in Austin.

F1 Drivers Championship Standings and Qatar Grand Prix Report

Max Verstappen secured his third straight F1 championship by winning second place in Saturday’s sprint race two weekends ago in Qatar, but he did not take his foot off the pedal the following day, cruising to an easy win in Sunday’s race. It was his 14th win of the season, the one that extended his massive points lead on Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, who had crashed in the sprint race.

The 26-year-old Dutchman has finished outside of the top two just once since the start of the season, and he now needs just two wins in the last five races to break his own record for victories in a single F1 campaign.

In terms of his rivals for the win in Texas, we can mention only several names, including Sergio Perez, Oscar Piastri, and Lewis Hamilton. Perez has won two races this season but is winless since April and the Azerbaijan GP. Piastri is the most in-form driver apart from Verstappen. The second-place finish in Qatar was his second straight podium result, and the rookie also won Saturday’s sprint race two weekends ago in Losail. Nevertheless, we do struggle to find the value in backing either of the two men at the +1600 (Perez) and +1200 (Piastri) odds currently being offered at US sportsbooks.

Best Pick — Lewis Hamilton to win (+2200) with BetMGM

Formula 1 US Grand Prix 2023 Odds

Lewis Hamilton caused an early first-lap crash with his teammate George Russell in Qatar, but he has generally had a decent campaign overall, sitting third in the Drivers’ standings, 30 points shy of Sergio Perez in second place. His Mercedes is not competitive against Verstappen’s Red Bull Racing this season, but if anyone is worth backing at huge +2200 odds, it’s the record five-time Circuit of the Americas winner.
