In our previous two installments, we gazed into our crystal ball and predicted what could be in store from GGPoker and PokerStars in 2022. This time, we ponder and predict what lies ahead in the growing US market.
Many major developments came into fruition, making 2021 one of the best and most significant years in the history of the US regulated online poker and in the history of the poker industry in general. The year started off with plenty of positive news:
- The US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit ruled that the Wire Act only applies to betting on sporting events.
- PokerStars became the first room to go live in the regulated online poker market of Michigan, followed by BetMGM a couple of months later.
- BetMGM & Borgata launched their online poker platforms in Pennsylvania in April.
- partypoker’s parent company Entain secured a three-year interactive gaming licensein Nevada
- Connecticut legalized online poker, becoming the seventh US state to do so.
- WSOP PA welcomed Pennsylvania poker players to its virtual felt when it went live in July.
- The 52nd Annual World Series of Poker returned after a year-long hiatus.
- BetMGM/partypoker US Network dominated the New Jersey online poker market for the first time in five years.
