The Garden City Group (GCG), the claims administrator in charge of overseeing the return of US deposits on Full Tilt Poker, sturred up the collective wrath of the online poker community Wednesday with a tweet asking for followers to vote it “Best Claims Administrator.”
US poker players, waiting two years to receive their Full Tilt funds—and four months since the GCG was appointed—understandably had a rather different opinion of the group. Over 150 tweets and retweets followed, many from well-recognized members of the community.
High stakes player Brian Hastings tweeted, “Full Tilt poker players have been waiting for their money for over 2 years now. Handle our claims and you will have my vote.” Independent anonymous poker journalist Diamond Flush added “Why are you using my money to pay someone to tweet, instead of using my money to pay me?” Each received dozens of retweets. Author and coach Jared Tendler even took the discussion to Facebook.
Approximately $150 million is owed to US players following the collapse of Full Tilt in 2011. In a later settlement between PokerStars and the US Department of Justice, PokerStars agreed to pay all non-US players and forfeit $547 million. The DOJ would use part of this money to repay US players. The GCG was appointed in March; in May the group admitted to pokerfuse that the remission process will take some time.
