888poker has just announced a big series for small bankrolls coming to the global site in August, the ChampionChip Games Series. Running from August 8 through 15 with an average buy-in of just $15, the $735,000 guaranteed series features 24 events.
With high-value, high buy-in series like the WSOP Online 2021 International and PokerStars’ WCOOP elsewhere in August, 888poker has gone a different direction next month with the ChampionChip Games Series.
The biggest buy-in for the 24-event summer sports themed series is $55, while the bargain event is just $2.20, making it perfect for new players or those with small bankrolls.
With more than $700,000 guaranteed, it averages out to just over $30,500 guaranteed per tournament. With total buy-ins to play the whole series at $354, that means that for every dollar of buy-in spent, players can expect almost $1,300 in guaranteed value (Gtd/Buy-In) across the series.
“At 888poker, we are constantly pushing the limits when it comes to poker offerings. Our latest promotion, ChampionChip Games, is the perfect example of that. This tournament series offers huge guarantees with affordable buy-ins,” 888poker told pokerfuse. “Not only can players buy in direct or satellite for a fraction of the entry, but they can also qualify for free. As such, it’s our primary goal to provide the best online poker playing experience for our base of recreational players. The multi-flight feature of the series allows players to choose the best Day 1 to play. They can even try their luck several times if things don’t work out initially. This mindset is how we operate at 888poker, our players are always at the forefront of any tournament decision-making process.”

ChampionChips in Detail
The series is highlighted by a huge-value multi-day Main Event, which has Day 1 flights running throughout the 7-day series. The Day 1 qualifiers will get together for Day 2 on August 16 to fight for the main prize.
Most of the $735,000 guaranteed is locked up in the $500,000 guarantee on the Main Event. That is an optimistic guarantee that requires more than 10,000 runners, but with Day 1s running multiple times per day, it could certainly be met.
The huge guarantee on a $50 tournament means the Main Event is by far the highest value tournament in the series, so much so that inclusion on a graph of guarantees skews the results, dwarfing the value of the other tournaments. Excluding the Main Event makes the rest of the data more clear, and even beyond the $10,000 gtd/buy-in for the Main Event, there is plenty of value to be had.
There is nearly $2,000 gtd/buy-in in the final event before Day 2 of the Main Event, a $5.50 game with $10,000 guaranteed. The series kicks off with a couple of events that have more than $1,300 gtd/buy-in on the first day, and there are several events through the rest of the series in the $700 – $900 gtd/buy-in range.

ChampionChip History
This is not the first time 888poker has run the low-stakes series. Originally conceived as a competitor for PokerStars MicroMillions series, the series first ran in 2016 timed to coincide with the Summer Olympics that year.
This year the timing and summer sports theme is very similar to 2016 with the Tokyo Olympics postponed till this summer as a result of last year’s lockdowns. This year, the guarantees are significantly juicier—even without the huge Main Event, there will be more than $50,000 extra guaranteed this year over the $175,000 guaranteed 2016.
The series ran again in 2017, 2018, and 2019, but this seems to be the first return since then. Action gets underway in the ChampionChip Games Series on August 8, and it is perfectly geared to the small-stakes player.
