There are over 250,000 reasons for players to jump onto PokerStars Ontario next week for the 50/50 Series. As the name suggests, the week’s theme is 50 games priced at CAD $50 each, with various guarantees depending on the game.
Across all 50 games on the week-long schedule, the operator is guaranteeing $262,000 in total prizes. The biggest guarantee and the best value will be found in the Main Event, which will have at least $20k in prizes. That game runs on the final day of the series, February 12, and will play as a progressive knockout (PKO) format game.
Coming on the back of a few successful series since the start of 2023, Pokerstars Ontario appears to be going all in on the tournament action this year. The new year began with the tail end of the Winter Series, which kicked off during Christmas weekend at the end of last year.
The Winter Series led straight into the Chinese New Year Series — 75 games themed around the new Year of the Rabbit that exceeded expectations. Then, most recently, was the KO Weekend to close out January.

From Series to Series
With barely a week to breathe, PokerStars is kicking off yet another real money Ontario online poker tournament series, the first weekend of February. As the name suggests, the 50/50 Series features 50 poker tournaments priced at $50 each, and guarantees vary throughout the week.
That makes it pretty easy to determine the best-value games in the series. With all the buy-ins being the same, value is really just a question of the guarantee, and for this series, the Main Event will be the one to watch. Running as a single-day progressive bounty game on February 12, the Main Event has $20k guaranteed for what will probably be the biggest prize pool of the entire series.
Besides the Main Event, three other games guarantee $10k or more, giving players lots of value. The Weekend Starter on February 11 kicks off the final weekend of play with $11k guaranteed, and the Series Opener and Mini Thursday Thrill SE will both have at least $10k to play for.
Cheap Main Event Seats
Many players will make it in the Main Event on the cheap, making its value even bigger. There are Mega Sat games that cost $3 with three seats guaranteed and three events scheduled daily through February 7.
The Mega Sat games require 55 players to hit the guarantee, so there is likely to be a lot of added value if some of them do not hit that total, but there will also be one more ticket for every 18.5 extra players once the $150 guarantee is met. That could mean a lot of tickets up for grabs if there is a run on satellites for this Main, as $50 tickets for $3 is a pretty good deal.
2023 could be the Year of the Tournament Series for PokerStars Ontario. With three series running in the first month of the year and the 50/50 Series kicking off in February, it seems clear what direction the operator plans to take, and this is excellent news for all MTT fans in the province.
