Sunday, October 15, marks the start of the build-up to the first-ever WSOP Paradise, as Day 1’s to the Mystery Millions and Main Event for international poker players get underway on GGPoker.
Flying under the “OnLive” moniker, these hybrid events play out both online before moving to the in-person arena as part of WSOP Paradise, taking place December 3 to 14 in the Bahamas.
There are 15 bracelet events up for grabs during WSOP Paradise, and the GGPoker app will be running Day 1 flights for some of the biggest games. Online Day 1s for both the $5,300 Main Event and the $1,650 Mystery Millions are on the GGPoker schedule now, with the first opening flights running this Sunday.
Both events will also have live Day 1 flights, with Day 2 of the Mystery Millions running on Dec 5 and the Main Event on Dec 12.
On October 15, US players looking for a shot at WSOP glory can also compete for a WSOP bracelet as part of WSOP Online 2023. This isn’t just any old bracelet event, though — WSOP is running it as a mystery bounty tournament and there’s a $150,000 guarantee on top of the coveted bracelet prize! Are Hybrid Online-Live Events the Way of the Future?
While this is far from the first time a poker tour has used an online Day 1 to feed into a live Day 2, the WSOP Paradise 2023 events are some of the biggest to use the format. With coveted WSOP bracelets on offer as well, it is an enticing proposition for many players to play Day 1 from home before ever hitting the live tournament floor — especially when that floor requires planes to get to.
That is especially the case with the new mystery bounty format, where players don’t get a shot at bounties until Day 2 begins. In that case, the chance to play Day 1 from home before the series is an excellent opportunity to ensure bounties will be in play the moment a player sits down at the live felt.
That helps make their journey to a live event slightly less painful, as they know they already have a shot at money from the first live hand they play.
The Mystery Millions game, which opens the series with two live Day 1 flights, is also among the highest-value games in the whole series, so earning a Day 2 seat in your pajamas from home is even more attractive. With $5 million guaranteed, the opening Mystery Millions game has more than $3k in value for every dollar of the $1,650 buy-in.
The $15 million guaranteed Main Event is no slouch in the value department either, coming in third on the value list for WSOP Paradise 2023. The event begins with live Day 1 action on Dec 9, but the online Day 1 action kicks off on Oct 15 with multiple shots at Day 2 in Paradise running before anyone is thinking of flying to the Bahamas. Players in the Mystery Millions Day 1 should expect to get a virtual chip bag with 10% of the field remaining, while online Main Event players will bag up for Day 2 with 15% left.
Whilst the Main Event and Mystery Millions event represent 40% of the total guarantees of the series, there are some other juicy games during WSOP Paradise this December. In fact, neither of the two above are the best value events — that honor goes to Event #2: Millionaire Maker in Paradise with its $5 million guarantee but a slightly reduced buy-in of $1,500 flat, giving it the edge over the $1,650 Mystery Millions.
