The Garden State Super Series (GSSS) run by Borgata and partypoker is back with a guaranteed prize pool of more than $1.1 million—making it the biggest online poker tournament The Garden State will have seen so far.
Details on the tournament are currently thin on the ground but as reported on Poker Industry PRO earlier in the week, the tournament will run between October 9-23 and have over $1.1 million dollars in guarantees.
The Battle for New Jersey is On
The incarnation of The GSSS V now out does PokerStars NJSCOOP (New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker) which ran back in May and had $1.1 million in guarantees.
At that time it pipped partypoker to the post for the “richest event” seen in the regulated New Jersey Market—now partypoker can retake the crown.
NJSCOOP had their $1.1 million spread across 54 events and at the time was billed as having “a wide range of tournaments at a variety of different buy-ins to suit players of all bankrolls”.
PokerStars still has time to up the ante once again as the operator announced its first running of “NJCOOP” will take place right after the end of GSSS V, which takes place between October 29 and November 6—so watch out for a $1.2m+ guarantee everyone.
However, it is no surprise that Borgata Poker and partypoker have added in a bigger guarantee as the New Jersey online poker market has seen significant growth since October 2015 when the GSSS had decreased the guaranteed prize pool from its orginal $1 million to $800,000.
But the $200,000 in guaranteed money was added back for the winter version of the online poker series earlier this year, and the increased competition and growth in the market is translating into an even bigger prize pool this time around.
All in all, this is an excellent time for New Jersey players wanting to capitalise on offers, promotions and deals as the operators continue to out do each other.
