iTunes is now offering New Jersey poker players an iOS poker app from WSOP.com NJ and 888Poker New Jersey. The apps differ only in colors and branding.
Only single tables are supported, but cash games, Sit and Gos and scheduled tournaments can all be played on the two New Jersey regulated sites from iPods and iPads—players are still required to be located within the state to play.
First reports suggest that the apps still have teething problems. Some players are reporting that the app only works with the mobile device connected to a wifi connection and others have reported problems sitting back in to a tournament if the player leaves to look at the lobby. Geolocation verification is also being raised as a concern.
Nonetheless, the early launch of mobile poker clients looks like a smart move given the European experience where up to a third of revenues are now coming from players using tablets and smartphones.
2+2 rep WSOPBill has promised an Android app as soon as the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement can certify it.
