Online poker giant PokerStars US will be introducing daily cash game leaderboards in its US-regulated market in an attempt to boost traffic by rewarding extra prizes.
Starting on May 23 and running for nearly a month, the operator will be running the leaderboard competition in all three of its US states — New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. However, the promotion will only be available to select players.
To check if a player has been selected for the promotion, they will need to log in to their respective PokerStars USA client and click on the “Challenges” window to check their eligibility.
Rather than players needing to commit to a whole week or a month to win the prizes, all leaderboards will last just a day.

How Will the Daily Cash Game Leaderboard Promotion Work?
As is standard for most leaderboard races, players will need to opt-in to become eligible for the promotion. A total of six stakes will be eligible for the leaderboard, allowing players the chance to win prizes in all of the tiers. The minimum stake eligible for promotion will be $0.05/$0.10 and the $2/$5 will be at the top end. Only No-Limit Hold’em cash games will be eligible.
Scores are recorded once 100 hands have been played and only the first 100 hands after opting in will count towards the Daily Leaderboard promotion.
The leaderboard scoring system is designed in such a way that any player, be it a regular player or a recreational player, will have an equal chance of topping the competition. Points are based on the values of hole cards dealt with the players — Jack has 11 points, Queen has 12 points, King has 13, and Ace has 14 points.
Furthermore, if a player is dealt suited connectors, the points are multiplied by 2x whereas all pocket pairs from two to ten will award a 4x multiplier, while higher pocket pairs will earn a fixed amount of points of up to 125.
At the end of the day, players with the most points will win a share of prize money earmarked for their respective states. Players can opt into all six leaderboard tiers to win up to six prizes each day.
To check players’ current standing on the leaderboard, they can do so by logging in to the client and clicking on the “Leaderboards” tab. Players can track the number of hands played after opting in at any time at the table itself.
The number of places paid and prizes will depend on their respective state. Those that top the 10NL tier in Pennsylvania and Michigan will earn $50 and the same will get $30 in New Jersey.
While leaderboard promotions are nothing new, it is thought to be the first time in a long time that PokerStars USA is offering leaderboard promotions in cash games. The operator does from time to time offer similar leaderboard promotions in its other markets including the dot-com market but often the US market is left out.
Not this time around, as PokerStars wants to drive the cash game traffic for its trio of rooms in the US despite already dominating the markets in Pennsylvania and Michigan. In New Jersey, the operator is lagging behind its competitors with WSOP leading followed by BetMGM/partypoker US Network.
However, none of those rooms are offering leaderboard competitions in cash games but are doing so in other game types such as sit and go’s and BLAST — WSOP/888’s lottery-style sit and go product.
The Daily Cash Game Leaderboard promotion on PokerStars USA runs from May 23 to June 20, right after the Bounty Builder Series comes to an end.
