How Do I Play PLO-5?
PLO-5, or Five-Card PLO, as some people call it, is a relatively new version of the game of Pot-Limit Omaha, which we have grown quite accustomed to.
The game follows most of the same rules as regular PLO, except each player is dealt five instead of four hole cards at the start of every hand.
The betting order is the same as PLO, as two players post the blinds and the player to their left kicks off the pre-flop action. Players can raise and bet up to the size of the pot in accordance with the pot-limit betting rules.
While the game plays a lot like regular PLO, adding the extra hole card makes all the difference, creating infinitely more possibilities, opportunities, and dangers.
To really understand PLO-5 and what it’s all about, we highly suggest heading over to GGPoker Ontario and trying the game at the lowest limit, so you can get a feel for how it looks and plays in real-time.
Pros and Cons of Playing PLO-5
Like any poker game, PLO-5 comes with a new set of rules and pros and cons compared to other game formats like NLH or PLO.
If there is one thing playing PLO-5 does for the game, it’s that it drives an insane amount of action, with pots going multi-way a lot more than in other games and players more likely to chase draws or play relatively weak hands hoping to catch just the right flop.
This gives skilled poker players a significant advantage, which is hard to have at Texas Hold 'em tables, considering the vast amounts of experience most players have gained over long years of play.
The possibility of finding tons of action and the lack of skill by many players at PLO-5 tables make this an ideal game to try playing at lower stakes to learn how to beat it and advance through the ranks.
Of course, the downside of PLO-5 is that you have probably never played it before, so it may take some time to learn the ropes and figure out the angles.

PLO-5 also generates incredible amounts of variance, meaning you will go on hot streaks and major downswings a lot more often than in other games. Thus, coming in with a solid bankroll is a prerequisite.
Yet, if you are someone who loves a new challenge and has gambling in their bones, PLO-5 is the perfect game for you. It has all the action you could want and plenty of opportunity for a tremendous win rate.
PLO-5 is now offered only at GGPoker Ontario at stakes ranging from $0.01/0.02 to $5/10, with plenty of action going on at tables up to $0.5/1 at peak hours.
