GGPoker Breaches 10k Level: Key Points:

  • Traffic surpasses 10,000 concurrent cash game players
  • Becomes the third operator to achieve such a feat after PokerStars and Full Tilt
  • Up nearly 50% year-over-year
  • Boasts almost five times more traffic than PokerStars
  • Larger than all major dot-com operators combined
  • Controlling 56% of the international dot-com traffic

As previously reported, GGPoker has maintained a substantial lead over all other dot-com operators. Even when considering the collective traffic of major operators like PokerStars, iPoker network, partypoker, 888poker, Unibet, WPT Global, and all third-tier networks, GGPoker’s traffic continues to surpass them all.

Today, its dominance has further strengthened, with a market share of 56%.

GG Joins PokerStars and Full Tilt in Breaching 10K Cash Game Players

We work ceaselessly to make GGPoker the best place to play our favorite game; we focus on improving the overall game ecology and optimizing our promotions to ensure GGPoker remains as welcoming a poker room as possible for all new and recreational players. GGPoker now joins an exclusive club, becoming the third operator, after PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, to support cash game seats in the five-digit range. Except for a brief spike in mid-2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no operator has maintained over 10,000 concurrent cash game players in over five years. The last time such traffic levels were observed was with PokerStars in April 2018.

During online poker’s golden days, Full Tilt consistently boasted over 10,000 players from 2009 to 2011 until the infamous Black Friday. Another operator, Partypoker, came close to breaching this threshold in 2006 but was forced to withdraw from the US market following the passage of UIGEA, preventing it from achieving that level of traffic.

“We work ceaselessly to make GGPoker the best place to play our favorite game; we focus on improving the overall game ecology and optimizing our promotions to ensure GGPoker remains as welcoming a poker room as possible for all new and recreational players. Hopefully, we will host even more poker players in the future!” Burke added.

Now, in this new era, GGPoker has achieved this feat. Its meteoric rise has been truly extraordinary. Five years ago, the GGPoker network was relatively unknown, and the idea of it or any other poker network surpassing PokerStars to become the world’s leading online poker room would have been hard to fathom.

Numerous factors have fueled the operator’s persistent growth in an industry marked by stagnation. Its rapid software development, generous cash game promotions, ambitious tournament series, a vibrant lineup of brand ambassadors, and a groundbreaking partnership with the World Series of Poker (WSOP) — have all contributed to this remarkable growth.

However, one major advantage that has significantly contributed to GG’s success is the disparity in regulatory landscapes across different regions. While competitors like PokerStars, partypoker, and 888poker faced challenges due to stringent regulatory environments, GGPoker adeptly navigated these obstacles, thanks to its ingenious business model — giving it exposure to grey markets.

But the operator has not been immune to controversies, from appointing questionable ambassadors to its game policies like rake and tournament fees and its operations in grey markets. Yet, in defiance of these challenges, or perhaps because of them, GGPoker has defied market trends and emerged as a dominant force.

Poker Industry PRO, our premium news source and data analytics platform dedicated to online poker, foresaw this development earlier in the year when its cash game traffic hovered around 8400 seats. It accurately predicted that GGPoker would surpass the 10,000 mark by year’s end, and that prediction has now become a reality.

This is the third time GGPoker has achieved this milestone in the past two months. It first reached the 10,000-seat threshold in September, maintaining this level for ten consecutive days before briefly dipping below 9300. In mid-October, the traffic surged again, peaking at 10,102 concurrent players, and now, in November, the platform has once again exceeded this benchmark.

This upward trend may persist, as historical data suggests that more people turn to at-home entertainment during the winter months to combat the cold weather. If this pattern holds, GGPoker may soon achieve its all-time high in traffic, last seen in early September, and possibly even reach the 11,000-player milestone.
