All of this has become a reality thanks to a multi-year partnership between the PokerStars Ontario app and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), a collaboration unveiled last year. MLSE owns of four major sports franchises and Scotiabank Arena, the home stadium for two of its teams — the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and the NBA’s Toronto Raptors.
MLSE also owns Toronto FC in Major League Soccer, the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League (AHL).
“Our aim is for this partnership to be a win-win for our players and fans alike — making the experience of playing with PokerStars more epic thanks to the partnership, and finding ways to make the fan experience of watching their teams better too,” said Tom Warren, PokerStars Marketing Director.
PokerStars has already released the schedule for the first four weeks. Week 1, held on November 5, featured a freeroll with $1000 in prizes, including cash prizes and Maple Leaf Tickets.
Week 2 on November 12 hosted a $50 buy-in Progressive Knockout (PKO) tournament with $8000 in guarantees and additional Leaf tickets up for grabs. It drew 330 runners to nearly double its guarantee, ending with a final prize pool of $15,015.
Week 3 on November 19 is set for another $1000 guaranteed freeroll with cash and Leaf tickets as rewards.
Finally, on November 26, the last Sunday of the month, a $50 featured No-Limit Hold’em event with a $10,000 guarantee and a coveted Red Spade Pass for the champion will take place.
A PokerStars Red Spade Pass is an exclusive VIP package providing unique experiences such as an F1 experience in Las Vegas or a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Los Angeles.
Date | Gtd | Buy-in | Prizes |
---|---|---|---|
Nov 5 | $1000 | Freeroll | Cash + Leaf Tickets |
Nov 12 | $8000 | $50 | Cash + Bounties + Leaf Tickets |
Nov 19 | $1000 | Freeroll | Cash + Leaf Tickets |
Nov 26 | $10,000 | $50 | Cash + Red Spade Pass to the Winner |
This collaboration between PokerStars and Maple Leaf is not a one-time affair. Since it was formed last year, they have organized generous giveaways, all-in shootout tournaments, and even provided an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles, among other exciting events.
PokerStars has also been extending its reach in the US by forming partnerships with sports teams such as the Detroit Red Wings in Michigan, the Philadelphia 76ers in Pennsylvania, and Formula One Team Oracle Red Bull Racing across the country.
Fall Fest Series Gets Underway
In other news, PokerStars Ontario is currently hosting the Fall Fest Series for its second iteration. It kicked off on November 17 and runs until November 27. The series guarantees over CAD $550,000 in prize money across 54 events.
The buy-ins for the series range from CAD $10 to CAD $1000, with the widely popular Progressive Knockout (PKO) format featured in half of the tournaments, totaling 27 events.
It culminates in a CAD $70,000 guaranteed Main Event scheduled for November 26, requiring a buy-in of CAD $200.
Throughout the series, PokerStars will be running daily Freerolls awarding Fall Fest tickets, with each freeroll guaranteeing CAD $1000. These freerolls will continue running daily until November 26.
