Up in the Great White North, the BetMGM Ontario Poker Network is running a special holiday edition of its popular Grand Prix KO Series. Having kicked off on December 3 and running through December 12, the 10-day poker extravaganza boasts a guaranteed prize pool of CAD $20,000 with a modest buy-in of CAD $55.
Touted as the “biggest $55 event in BetMGM Ontario history,” the tournament not only promises the aforementioned prize pool but also adds an exciting twist with $500 in surprise packages, offered in addition to the guaranteed winnings.
Eligibility for participation is open to all real-money online poker players in Ontario aged 19 and above.

The BetMGM Poker Ontario Network comprises BetMGM Poker Ontario, partypoker Ontario, and bwin Ontario, all sharing a unified player pool. Notably, it was one of the first online poker networks to launch in Canada’s largest province.
BetMGM launched its real money Ontario online poker platform in April 2022 — just a day after the market opened up, becoming the second online poker room to set foot in the newly regulated market, following 888poker Ontario.
The BetMGM Ontario Network has never hosted a $55 tournament of this magnitude. The Grand Prix KO is designed as a phased tournament, featuring numerous Day 1s spread across its ten-day duration. Adopting the widely popular Progressive Knockout (PKO) format, where half of the buy-in contributes to the knockout pool, players can earn bounties for eliminating opponents.
Day 1s occur twice daily at 18:05 and 20:30 ET, leading up to Day 2, scheduled for Tuesday, December 12, at 20:00 ET. Day 1s have amassed nearly 200 entries at the time of writing, with close to 30 players advancing to Day 2. To meet the guarantee, the tournament would need 400 entrants in total.
Participation options abound, as players can buy into the $20,000 guaranteed Grand Prix KO event by paying $55 or secure a seat through qualifiers starting as low as $0.01. Special satellites run daily.
The target tournament offers players a starting stack of 100,000, with one re-entry permitted per Day 1. Late registration remains open until the conclusion of level 14, around 140 minutes, with blinds increasing every 10 minutes.
Adding to the excitement, $500 in surprise packages will be randomly distributed among those who cash in. These packages encompass a $55 cash dollar, allowing players to engage in cash games.

In addition to BetMGM, competitors like PokerStars Ontario, 888poker Ontario, and GGPoker Ontario are also running tournament series for Ontario players.
PokerStars Ontario is hosting 25 Days of Tournaments this month with each day promising a mystery tournament. Meanwhile, 888poker Ontario is hosting a CAD $300,000 guaranteed KO Games running until December 11.
GGPoker, Ontario’s largest online poker room, is gearing up for its own spectacular event. The platform is set to host the Winter Giveaway Series with a guaranteed prize pool of $2.5 million, taking place from December 15 to January 15.
