Big Promo for True Grinders
To make it very clear right off the bat, the POY Leaderboard is a valuable promotion, but it is geared towards serious grinders willing to put in a big volume. Unlike some other promotions, you can’t luck your way into the prizes with this one.
The Leaderboard runs until November 24, and you can earn points in the following events:
- WPT Global Seasonal Events: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall Festivals
- Four Mid-Season Festivals
- All Sunday Slam events (Sunday Slam, Grand Slam, Mini Slam)
For multiple entries, points are awarded only for the best finish. Only main tournaments are counted toward POY points, i.e., satellites or qualifiers of any kind for target events do not contribute to your points total.
Your WPT Global POY points will be calculated using the following formula:
- Buy-in x (Entrants/Position) x (Top 6 Bonus)
The Top 6 Bonus depends on your final finishing position:
- 1st place — 1.5
- 2nd place — 1.45
- 3rd — 1.4
- 4th — 1.35
- 5th — 1.3
- 6th — 1.25
So, looking at the formula, it is clear that higher buy-in events are more valuable, but doing well in smaller buy-in tournaments with a large number of entries can help you make up the difference if you’re a lower-stakes grinder.
As mentioned, the Leaderboard encompasses all qualifying tournaments up to November 24, and it features prizes worth fighting for, especially for those who can make it to the top ten spots.
