How Can You Become a Loose Cannon?
As most of you reading this article will know, The Big Game, now rebranded to The Big Game on Tour, is a poker show where selected players, dubbed Loose Cannons, are given a buy-in for a cash game and they have a certain number of hands to try and make a profit. Anything they make over the initial buy-in once the session is over is theirs to keep.
During the 2024 NAPT in Las Vegas this November, PokerStars will be looking for fresh Loose Cannons for the upcoming season of the popular show. If you’re looking to take a shot at it, there are two steps to this process.
First, you’ll need to enter one of the qualifying tournaments, where one in five players will make it to the next step, the audition.
PokerStars has announced three qualifying tournaments for November, with details as follows:
Date | Registration Start | Registration Close | Player Cap | Max Qualifiers |
---|---|---|---|---|
October 30 | 1 pm | 4 pm | 80 | 16 |
October 31 | 9 am | 11 am | 80 | 16 |
November 4 | 9 am | 10 am | 120 | 24 |
All players who manage to accumulate 50,000 in chips will automatically qualify for the auditions taking place November 4 — 5. Here, you’ll face a panel of judges who’ll determine which of the qualifiers represent the best fit for Loose Cannon seats.
Players who win a Gold Pass to the NAPT do not have to go through satellites, as they will automatically qualify for the audition, which adds some extra value to the already hugely valuable promotion.
Last year, there were two Loose Cannon spots, and that’s the minimum we expect this year, although it is possible the number of spots will be bigger this season.
The Hype Is On!
The Big Game made its big comeback last year, after a 12-year hiatus, and it was a huge success in every way. Two ladies secured their Loose Cannon spots, Nikki Limo and Lily Newhouse.
Both were staked $50,000 to play separate sessions of 150 hands, with the stipulation that any money they had in front of them after the final hand was dealt was theirs to keep. Newhouse took full advantage of this opportunity, finishing her Loose Cannon adventure almost $56,000 in black.
We expect that the rules for the Big Game on Tour 2024 will not change in any significant way, so those looking to qualify have a good idea of what to expect.
The only remaining mystery is what players will be in the lineup for the new season. So far, it’s been confirmed that the NFL star Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski and Nick Wright, a sports media personality will be in the mix.
All players visiting Vegas during the 2024 NAPT are welcome to join one of the qualifiers and take their shot. Just make sure to download the PokerStars LIVE app beforehand (as this is one of the requirements), and be on time for tournament registration, as the number of seats is limited and it’s safe to assume there will be a lot of people trying to snag one of them.
