PokerView, a poker room on the US-facing Everleaf Gaming Network best known for its poker tables with webcam support, made a last-minute announcement that it is switching to the Merge Gaming Network network on Tuesday.
The poker room is planned to close temporarily at 1230 EST and re-open its doors by 2200 on the new network. It is not clear at this time if the poker room will come back online with its signature webcam-only tables or if there will be a delay.
The move may open up a short window of opportunity for US players to sign up to the Merge Gaming Network. Despite hopes to the contrary, Merge Gaming still does not permit US account signups, although US players with an existing account may continue to play. Everleaf Gaming, however, continues to allow new US customers to join.
Despite the PR, PokerView is not the first poker room to try out webcam tables. 888 launched webcam-only tables as part of their new player-friendly “Poker 6” client, launched in February this year. Pokerview followed shortly with a real-money launch of webcam tables in in May.
Most notable for the webcam feature, PokerView also offers regular cash and tournament tables. Although the room is unlikely to add significant player numbers to the network, Merge Gaming will welcome the positive coverage and any boost to numbers after reports yesterday of drops in traffic attributed to speculation on further DOJ seizures targeted at Merge.
