- “We have over 400,000 players using our new PokerStars 7 (PS7) software daily, and we are planning to discontinue the older version, PokerStars 6 (PS6) early in 2015.”
- The differences in the two platforms is substantial, and discontinuing the old client is understandable given the resources it would take to maintain two separate code bases.
- It has been in public testing for a year and private testing for at least two more.
PokerStars has announced its plan to discontinue its version 6 client as early as next month.
The online poker room has been slowly rolling out its new client, with a redesigned lobby, new table theme, and a host of new settings and features, over the last year. It started with optional alpha testing which lead to public beta testing and a test expansion as the default client in regional markets. It then became the default client on dot-com and dot-eu.
Currently players can still downgrade to PS6 through an option in settings, but this feature will soon be removed, as PokerStars spokesperson announced.
