The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is now firmly in the rearview. It was the biggest World Series of Poker ever to run. It exceeded turnout and prize pools across the board, generating over $425.2 million over its online and live events, and welcomed over 250,000 players!
Each year, the organizers always add something new. A new tournament type, a new record to reach, a twist on old formulas. But they also keep a lot the same, meaning we can predict a high degree of confidence in next year’s schedule.
So, while no details have been revealed, pokerfuse has made four predictions for next year. While nothing is set in stone, we can start predicting some big tournaments and key dates and even speculate on some twists next year.

Prediction 1: WSOP 2024 Will Start on May 28
With the way the dates fall, we expect that the 2024 WSOP will kick off in The Horseshoe & Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on the last Tuesday of May 2024. In particular, we think May 28 will be the date the WSOP 2024 gets underway. We predict the series will wrap up on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 — following on from how previous series have run.
Central to the WSOP is always, of course, the coveted Main Event.
Based on the dates the event has run in the past, we predict the Main Event will kick off on Wednesday, July 3, and run until Tuesday, July 16, 2024. We aren’t so confident that the prize pool for the Main Event will be beaten next year, as the operator would need to attract over 10,000 players to top the $93 million 2023 prize pool. For 2024, we think an $80 to $85 million prize pool would be realistic with a turnout of around 8500-9500 players.

Prediction 2: WSOP 2024 Will Have Doyle Brunson-Themed Event
We expected a new event to be added to the schedule named in honor of the late godfather of poker, Doyle Brunson. This gesture would pay homage to Brunson’s indelible mark on the game and underscore his enduring legacy within the poker community. As Brunson was known for NLH, we expect the event to be a No Limit Hold 'em event with a mid-range buy-in of $1,020 or top end of $10,200.
We also expect to see more hybrid events playing out online before moving to a live setting. This year, we are seeing a rise in hybrid events from the WSOP and GGPoker, which they have called ONLIVE. We are currently witnessing ONLIVE events for the upcoming WSOP Paradise event that plays out live in the Bahamas, with Day 1s starting online. Therefore, we predict ONLIVE events to run for the WSOP 2024 via GGPoker and possibly WSOP.com.

- Great MTT schedule including WSOP events
Prediction 3: WSOP 2024 Will Offer 95+ Bracelets Across Live and Online
In terms of live bracelet events, in 2023, 95 live bracelet events plus 34 bracelets were available online. We don’t think the WSOP will go much beyond this figure. We predict that for 2024, the WSOP will keep roughly the same amount of events for both live and online.
We predict there will be around 95 to 100 live bracelets to be won for live events.
Roughly around 20 to 22 online bracelet events in New Jersey and Nevada, which share player pools, are to be expected. 6 to 7 online bracelet events for Pennsylvania people will also be offered.
We also expect a follow-up online series in the fall of next year. As per 2023, the WSOP Online played out in segregated US markets of Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Nevada. One bracelet was guaranteed in each market of PA and MI, whereas 33 were available for players in the combined NJ and NV markets. Next year, we predict the series will follow similarly, offering the same amount of bracelets per market.

Prediction 4: WSOP Michigan to Have Joined Player Pools with NJ and NV
The possibility of Michigan joining the shared liquidity network of New Jersey and Nevada is on the horizon,} and there are hopes the player pools will be merged by summer 2024. This could yield another 6 to 7 online bracelet events should the integration materialize. However, if real money online poker in Michigan stays ring-fenced, we could expect 6 to 7 online bracelets to run in that market alone as part of the summer series.
If the merger of player pools were to happen, adding the Michigan player pool would significantly bolster the WSOP’s existing network, forming the country’s first shared liquidity network involving Nevada and Michigan.
Stray thoughts include that we would expect there to be online qualifiers set to run on WSOP.com as early as January 2024. GGPoker will likely partner with the brand for another year, so online qualifiers available in the dot-com market are also expected in early 2024.
By the summer of 2024, we predict that the WSOP will have upgraded its dated software in New Jersey and Nevada — ahead of any online bracelet series.
