PartyPoker confirmed on Friday that the rake for micro- and low-buyin SNGs would be reduced.
The $1, $3 and $6 tournaments, which did have up to 20% rake, have been brought more in-line with industry standards with a 10% for the $3 and $6 tournaments, and 15% rake for the $1. The buyins are the same, with more of the entry fee going towards the prize-pool.
The move comes as part of a PartyPoker's large-scale changes to cash and tournament rake. Rake calculations were switched to the “weighted contributed” method, causing much controversy. A plan to increase rake caps was aborted at the last minute after a successful player protest.
It is not the only recent change to reduce tournament rake. Multi-table tournaments are still rake-free thanks to an ongoing promotion, and Party still leads the industry for high-buyin SNGs with a permanent cap of $10 max rake.
