PokerStars new sit and go variant, dubbed Spin & Go, could launch on other markets as early as October this year.
The new format, dubbed lottery sit and gos, debuted exclusively in the Spanish market earlier this month.
The new game variant sits three players together to play a fast-structure winner-takes-all tournament where the prize money is randomized—-from 2x to 1000x the buy-in.
The fast rollout on the format makes it the biggest shake-up in online poker since the launch of fast-fold poker.
It was invented by French-regulated Winamax under the Expresso name, and later aped by iPoker with Twister and Full Tilt with Jackpots.
PokerStars is the latest poker room to follow Winamax’s lead. Well suited for mobile play, it is also already available on PokerStars’ official mobile apps on Android and iOS.
Deployment
According to Baard Dahl, Ring Game Manager at PokerStars, it is likely that Spin & Gos will make their way to other markets that share the dot-com player pool, which includes Denmark, Belgium and Estonia, by the end of the year.
While there is no formal timeline, a “best guess” is the game will go live in October this year.
There was no comment on its possible debut in France, where it would compete directly with Winamax and iPoker, or in Italy, where the format was recently authorized by regulator AAMS.
