Ireland’s plans to tax online gambling operators has been further delayed, following concerns raised by Malta.
The implementation of the Betting (Amendment) Bill 2013, which was called “imminent” back in October, will be pushed back to the new year so that concerns raised by the Maltese government over licensing laws applying to operators already licensed in other jurisdictions can be addressed.
Malta is the world’s largest online gaming jurisdiction, with thousands of companies basing their online operations from within the Maltese jurisdiction, affording them low gaming and corporation tax while remaining within the EU.
