A chiropractor, a former state senator, and an entrepreneur are among the seven people Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has appointed to a panel tasked with advising state regulators on sports betting matters.

Beshear signed an executive order establishing the seven-member Sports Wagering Advisory Council (SWAC) on August 15. The order says the panel’s duties “shall include providing advice and insight” to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC), the governor, and the administration — aka the Public Protection Cabinet (PPC).

In comments that accompanied his executive order on that day, the Democratic Governor explained that there was an urgent need for such a panel to be created.
