“With two world champions coming out of this state, Michigan is a special market for the WSOP.”
Yesterday, the World Series Of Poker (WSOP), went live in a new jurisdiction, dealing its first real money online poker hand in the state of Michigan, and marking the brand’s fourth US state in which it has a presence.
On Monday, March 28, at approximately 10 AM EST, WSOP MI went live for cash poker games with a full complement of offerings including its lottery-style sit and go BLAST, regular sit and gos, as well as the standard cash games and tournaments.
Hundreds of players flocked to the new site within hours of its opening. At the time of writing, a host of real money games were running, with dozens of players seated at cash game tables, and tournaments having no difficulty in filling up seats.
As with other online poker rooms in Michigan, the new site is segregated and players can only compete with others within the state. But this could be temporary as the MI regulator has applied to join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) and is currently in review by the three current members of the pact — Delaware, Nevada, and New Jersey. Once approved, operators in Michigan will be able to connect their Michigan player pools with their other sites in states that are part of the interstate compact.
